Job Title: Technical Author Salary: £55,000-£60,000 Location: Hybrid in Huntingdon (sometimes Waterbeach) Please note that unfortunately this opportunity does not offer sponsorship.
We are on the lookout for a Technical Author to create and maintain clear, accurate and user-friendly technical documentation supporting the use and maintenance of products, services and systems on behalf of one of our clients, a global engineering and technology business developing specialist hardware and software solutions for customers across international markets.
You’ll work closely with product development teams, engineers, project managers and subject matter experts to understand complex technical information and translate it into documentation that customers can easily understand and use. This role plays an important part in the customer experience, ensuring that high-quality documentation enables customers to integrate and use our technology quickly and effectively.
What You’ll Be Doing: Develop, write and edit technical documentation, including user manuals, system operation guides and installation instructions. Translate complex technical information into clear, concise and accessible content. Work closely with engineering and product development teams to gather information and ensure documentation is accurate and up to date. Review and update existing documentation to reflect current product and technical information. Create diagrams, charts and other visual aids to support technical content. Work with graphic designers to incorporate visual elements into documentation. Explore innovative ways of communicating complex technical information, including through video and animation. Ensure documentation meets relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements. Test products and tools to verify the accuracy of technical content. Manage documentation schedules and content deadlines, typically working with project managers and engineers across a three-month planning horizon. Use content management and documentation systems to organise and publish technical content, ensuring customers can easily access the latest documentation. Review documentation produced by other writers to ensure consistency and accuracy. Contribute to training materials and e-learning content. Participate in peer reviews and provide constructive feedback. Identify ineffective processes and recommend improvements to enhance the customer experience.What You’ll Bring:
Experience producing technical documentation within a software or hardware environment. Previous experience working in an Agile development environment. Experience within a scientific or engineering environment. Strong technical writing and editing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and documentation software. Experience using documentation tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare or similar. Familiarity with version control systems. Experience working with content management systems. A basic understanding of HTML, CSS and other web technologies. Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements relating to technical documentation.Skills & Behaviours Able to understand complex technical concepts quickly and communicate them clearly.
