Technical Author – Pre-Operations (Mechanical or Electrical)
Location: Cumbria Contract: 12 Months+ Rate: Up to £51.00 per hour Discipline: Mechanical or Electrical / E&I
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Technical Author to join a Pre-Operations team supporting a major nuclear project in Cumbria. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-profile programme by producing high-quality operational documentation that supports the safe and effective commissioning, operation, and maintenance of plant systems.
Key Responsibilities
Produce compliant Operation, Maintenance (O&M) and Emergency Instructions within agreed project timescales. Develop and document risk assessment requirements to support working-level instructions. Review engineering, design, and vendor documentation to generate Volume C operational documentation. Conduct on-plant validation activities to verify the accuracy and usability of working instructions. Incorporate validation feedback and complete all post-validation updates and documentation revisions. Interface with engineering, design, operations, commissioning, and vendor teams to gather and verify technical information. Support plant walkdowns, inspections, and site familiarisation activities. Report progress and key deliverables to the Pre-Operations Manager. Provide regular progress updates and status reports. Attend project meetings, technical reviews, and stakeholder workshops. Promote a strong safety culture and commitment to Zero Harm principles. Ensure documentation is produced and maintained to the highest quality standards. Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.Essential Requirements
Previous experience working within the nuclear industry. Minimum HNC qualification in a relevant engineering discipline. Mechanical or Electrical/Instrumentation engineering background. Experience producing technical, operational, maintenance, or procedural documentation. Working knowledge of commissioning, operations, or maintenance processes within a regulated environment. IOSH Working Safely, Managing Safely, or equivalent health and safety qualification. Ability to obtain and maintain SC Security Clearance. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality documentation. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a project team.Desirable
Experience developing O&M instructions and emergency operating procedures. Experience carrying out plant validation activities and site walkdowns. Familiarity with nuclear safety and quality assurance requirements. Knowledge of commissioning and pre-operational testing environments.
