Technical Director – Safety & Risk Management

We’re supporting a specialist engineering and technical consultancy in the appointment of a Technical Director – Safety & Risk Management to lead and develop its Aberdeen operation.

This is a senior leadership role combining technical safety expertise, client management, business development and team leadership. You’ll play a key role in growing the Aberdeen business while acting as a senior technical authority across complex safety and risk projects within the energy, process and major hazard sectors.

The Role

You’ll provide technical leadership and assurance across a broad range of safety and risk activities, including:

* Safety Case development and reviews

* PFEER assessments

* QRA and ALARP demonstrations

* HAZID, HAZOP and SIMOPS workshops

* Technical assurance and review of safety deliverables

* Client relationship and strategic account development

* Proposal development, project scoping and budget management

* Leadership, mentoring and development of the Aberdeen team

A major focus will be strengthening the organisation’s presence in Aberdeen, developing existing client relationships and identifying new opportunities across the energy and high-hazard industries.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced Technical Safety, Process Safety or Safety & Risk professional who can combine strong technical credibility with commercial and leadership capability.

You’ll ideally bring:

* Significant experience within technical safety, process safety or risk management

* Experience gained within consultancy, an operator or a major hazard environment

* Strong knowledge of Safety Cases, QRA, ALARP, PFEER and hazard studies

* Experience leading and mentoring technical teams

* Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills

* Commercial experience across proposals, scopes, budgets and business development

* The ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to senior stakeholders

Experience within offshore energy, decommissioning, hydrogen, carbon capture or wider energy transition projects would be particularly valuable.

Chartered status, an established Aberdeen network and experience with software such as Phast or Safeti would also be advantageous.
