Job Description - Technical Engineer - London and surround

Job Title: Technical Engineer
Reports To: Technical Engineer Team Leader
Location: Field-based (predominantly in London and surrounding areas)
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum
Industry: Fenestration (Building and Construction)

Job Purpose: We are seeking a skilled Technical Engineer to join our client’s team, providing frontline technical support on advanced systems to key partners across the UK and Ireland. This role will directly contribute to business growth and support sales targets by ensuring the highest standards of fabrication and installation practices across all product ranges, including aluminium and steel systems, digital solutions, and project applications. You will work closely with various internal teams, offering expertise and support while assisting in partner training.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with the Technical Engineer Team Leader to schedule and manage site visits across the UK, prioritising visits based on urgency and geographical location. Ensure all bookings are properly coordinated and confirmed with stakeholders.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Maintain thorough and accurate records of all site visits, customer interactions, and reports for quality control and reference. Ensure all findings are documented clearly and concisely.
  • Site Inspections: Conduct detailed site inspections of installed systems, identifying and troubleshooting any fabrication or installation non-conformities. Provide clear, actionable recommendations in visit reports to resolve any issues effectively.
  • Factory Surveys & Recommendations: Carry out factory surveys, offering expert recommendations on tooling and equipment to optimise the production of complex systems.
  • Complaint Resolution: Investigate complaints related to projects or fabrication, preparing in-depth reports with findings and suggesting actionable solutions to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Training & Support: Collaborate with the training department to provide hands-on support and training to partners and colleagues on the manufacturing and installation of products, ensuring all procedures follow best practices and company guidelines.
  • Test Sample Production & Installation Support: Assist the product management team in producing test samples, overseeing installation and glazing processes at testing facilities. Document all requirements and results in detailed reports.
  • On-site Relationship Building: Serve as the primary point of contact for partners during site visits, offering professional advice and building strong, lasting relationships.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Conduct risk assessments for on-site activities and ensure all necessary precautions are in place to maintain a safe working environment. Promote best practices in health and safety during fabrication and installation procedures.
Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Proven experience in site installation or fabrication within the fenestration industry.
  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Desirable Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with the manufacturing and installation of high-end systems (e.g., aluminium or steel).
  • In-depth understanding of product design principles.
  • Engineering qualifications.
  • Familiarity with CNC machine programming for aluminium production.

  • Driver’s License: A valid UK driving license is required.
