The Wiggett Group is looking for an experienced Access Control or Security Systems Engineer ready to take the next step into a Technical Manager role.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer or experienced Security Systems Engineer looking to develop their management skills. Previous management experience is not essential; we are looking for someone with strong technical knowledge, leadership potential and a proactive approach.
Initially, you will remain hands-on with technical support, fault-finding and quality checks before gradually taking on greater responsibility for engineering standards, team performance and technical delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical support and guidance to field-based engineers.
* Diagnose complex faults and support system testing and commissioning.
* Review engineer reports, photographs and completed works to ensure quality standards are met.
* Carry out site inspections, technical audits and quality checks where required.
* Monitor workmanship, remedial works and first-time fix rates.
* Support Contracts and Operations teams with technical queries and additional works.
* Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to resolve technical issues.
* Mentor engineers and identify training and development needs.
* Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, British Standards, manufacturer requirements and health and safety procedures.
* Help improve technical processes, engineering performance and service delivery.
Systems & Technical Experience
You should have practical experience with Access Control and associated Security Systems, including:
* Door entry, intercom and networked access control systems.
* Magnetic locks, electric strikes, readers, keypads and door release mechanisms.
* CCTV, intruder alarms and integrated security systems.
* Fault-finding, installation, servicing, maintenance and commissioning.
Experience with multiple manufacturers and system platforms would be advantageous.
Requirements
* Proven experience as an Access Control Engineer, Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer or similar.
* Strong technical knowledge and fault-finding ability.
* Experience supporting colleagues or taking the lead on technical issues.
* Good communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
* A commitment to quality, compliance and continuous improvement.
* Full UK driving licence.
Relevant qualifications, social housing experience, knowledge of British Standards and experience mentoring engineers would be advantageous.
The Opportunity
This role offers a genuine opportunity to progress from a hands-on engineering position into technical management. You will develop your leadership skills while building on your existing technical expertise, with increasing responsibility for supporting engineers, maintaining quality and improving operational performance.
If you are an experienced Access Control Engineer looking to take the next step in your career, we would like to hear from you.
