Job Description - Technical Sales Manager - Electronics

Technical Sales Manager – Electronic Components

Location: Hybrid – South-based, with regular travel to customers and company sites across the UK, plus occasional international travel.

Salary: Strong basic salary, dependent on experience, plus uncapped commission.

Select Talent Group is partnering with a leading electronics design and manufacturing business to appoint a technically strong, commercially minded Technical Sales Manager.

You will develop customer relationships and secure new design-in opportunities across the electronic components market. Working closely with electronics design engineers, hardware teams and purchasing stakeholders, you will understand customer applications, recommend suitable components and support their integration into new and existing designs.

The focus is on engaging early in the development process, helping customers solve technical challenges and getting products specified into designs ahead of RFQ and purchasing decisions. You will manage longer sales cycles, building relationships and supporting opportunities from initial concept through evaluation, qualification and production.

This would suit someone with experience in applications engineering, electronics design or technical sales who enjoys working directly with customers and wants to combine technical expertise with commercial responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

* Identify and develop opportunities with OEMs, design consultancies and electronics manufacturers across aerospace, defence, industrial, telecommunications, medical and automotive markets.

* Build relationships with design engineers, technical leaders and procurement teams to understand current projects and future product requirements.

* Engage early in the design cycle to influence component selection and secure design-in opportunities.

* Understand customer requirements, interpret technical specifications and recommend components that meet performance, reliability, cost and availability needs.

* Provide technical presentations, product guidance and application support, drawing on internal engineering teams and supplier expertise where needed.

* Coordinate samples, technical documentation and evaluation support to help customers progress through testing and qualification.

* Work with customers and suppliers to resolve component-selection, compatibility and application queries.

* Manage opportunities from initial engagement through design-in, RFQ, quotation and production orders, maintaining momentum throughout longer development cycles.

* Work closely with internal sales and supply-chain teams on pricing, lead times, availability and commercial proposals.

* Develop existing accounts by identifying new projects, applications and opportunities to broaden the range of components supplied.

* Maintain accurate CRM records, including project stages, technical requirements, expected production timelines and revenue potential.

* Share customer feedback and market intelligence to help shape the product portfolio and identify emerging opportunities.

* Represent the business at customer meetings, exhibitions and industry events.

Experience and Skills

* A background in electronic components, applications engineering, electronics design or technical sales.

* A degree, HND or equivalent practical experience in electronics, electrical engineering or a related discipline.

* The technical confidence to discuss electronic designs, interpret datasheets and translate application requirements into suitable component recommendations.

* A commercially minded approach, with an interest in developing accounts and converting technical opportunities into sales.

* An understanding of the electronics design cycle and how component selection progresses through evaluation, qualification and production.

* Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to build credibility with engineers and commercial stakeholders.

* An organised, proactive approach and the ability to manage multiple customer projects with differing development timescales.

* The ability to work independently, plan customer and site visits, and maintain consistent follow-up.

* Willingness to travel regularly across the UK and occasionally internationally.

* A full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience

* Previous experience in a Field Application Engineer, Sales Engineer, Technical Sales Engineer or electronics design role.

* Experience securing design wins or supporting customers through component evaluation and qualification.

* Knowledge of components such as semiconductors, passives, connectors, power devices, sensors, RF or timing products.

* Experience working with component manufacturers, distributors, OEMs or electronic manufacturing services providers.

* Familiarity with high-reliability or regulated applications, particularly aerospace, defence, medical or industrial electronics.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to combine hands-on technical engagement with ownership of customer relationships and business growth. You will help engineers make informed component choices, support products through development and build a pipeline of design wins that generate long-term revenue
