BAE Systems is looking for a time-served Technician to join the Tube Vent department at Radway Green, supporting the manufacture of 13mm cases.

Working across a section with 40 machines and a range of cold forming and drawing operations, you will be responsible for setting, operating, maintaining and repairing production equipment. This is a varied, hands-on position, with different machines and challenges to work on each day.

Press experience is particularly sought after to complement the existing team’s CNC knowledge. Training and development will be provided to build your understanding of the department’s equipment and processes.

Responsibilities
• Set and operate production machinery to meet quality, output and delivery targets.
• Carry out preventative maintenance, fault-finding and reactive mechanical repairs.
• Support production across 40 machines, including equipment used for cold forming and drawing operations.
• Maintain the safe condition of machinery, completing relevant checks and escalating safety concerns.
• Complete dynamic risk assessments for non-standard tasks and follow safe working procedures.
• Identify and resolve issues affecting safety, quality and production performance.
• Contribute to daily production meetings and continuous improvement activities.
• Support apprentices with their practical development and understanding of the equipment.

Skills and experience
• A time-served engineering apprenticeship, with experience in metal forming or turning.
• Experience working in a mechanical manufacturing environment.
• Experience setting and operating power presses, with press experience preferred over a predominantly CNC background.
• Practical experience of machinery maintenance, mechanical fault-finding and repair.
• Press inspection training to carry out press safety checks in line with PUWER requirements.
• Ability to work across a range of equipment and adapt to changing production priorities.

Desirable
• Experience of cold forming or drawing operations.
• Basic understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Keyence measuring equipment.
• Experience working in a medium-volume production environment against quality and delivery targets.
• Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, SAP and SuccessFactors.

Pay rates:
Standard shift (07:00-16:00) - £21.29p/hr PAYE
Two-Shift (06:00-14:00/14:00-22:00 swap weekly) - £25.12p/hr PAYE
Three-Shift (06:00-14:00/14:00-22:00/22:00-06:00 swap weekly) - £26.61p/hr PAYE
