Job Description - Tenancy Sustainment Officer

Tenancy Sustainment Officer

Location: Burton on Trent and Surrounding areas
Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience)
Job Type: Full-time and part-time available

Are you passionate about making a real difference in people's lives? Do you have experience supporting vulnerable individuals to maintain stable housing and achieve independent living?

Our client is seeking a compassionate and proactive Tenancy Sustainment Officer to join their Housing & Support team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work directly with tenants, helping them overcome barriers, sustain their tenancies, and improve their overall wellbeing through tailored, person-centred support.

The Role

As a Tenancy Sustainment Officer, you'll provide practical advice, guidance, and targeted interventions to tenants who require additional support to maintain their homes. Working collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies, you'll help individuals build confidence, access essential services, and achieve positive, long-term outcomes.

No two days are the same, making this an ideal role for someone who enjoys problem-solving, building relationships, and making a meaningful impact within the community.

Key Responsibilities

* Respond promptly to tenancy sustainment referrals.

* Assess individual needs and develop tailored support plans to address tenancy-related challenges.

* Work proactively with tenants to implement agreed actions, providing both encouragement and constructive challenge where appropriate.

* Assist tenants in maximising their income by identifying and resolving benefits-related issues.

* Support applications for grants and coordinate access to reusable furniture and essential household items.

* Build strong partnerships with local authorities, health professionals, social care teams, and other external agencies to deliver holistic support.

* Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date case records in line with data protection and organisational policies.

* Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead, managing safeguarding concerns appropriately and representing the organisation at safeguarding meetings, including MARAC where required.

* Carry out any other duties appropriate to the role as directed by the Housing & Support Manager.

About You

We're looking for someone who is empathetic, resilient, and committed to helping people achieve positive outcomes. You will ideally have:

* Experience supporting vulnerable individuals within housing, tenancy sustainment, support services, or a similar environment.

* Knowledge of welfare benefits and income maximisation.

* Understanding of safeguarding procedures and experience managing safeguarding concerns.

* Experience working collaboratively with statutory and voluntary sector agencies.

* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied caseload.

* Good IT skills and experience maintaining accurate case records.

* The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider team.

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to join an organisation that is committed to improving lives and strengthening communities. You'll play a vital role in supporting tenants to maintain stable accommodation, develop independence, and access the services they need to thrive
