Position Overview
As an Associate Director, you will play a key role in expanding The GR Company’s presence in the UK and Continental Europe. Working closely with the London team, you will support client projects, drive business development, and cultivate new opportunities.
With a strong focus on growth and networking, you will identify market opportunities, strengthen client relationships, and represent the firm at key events. Additionally, you will mentor and develop the London team, ensuring the successful execution of client projects and strategic initiatives.
This role is ideal for a bilingual (English/Japanese) professional with a keen interest in Japanese politics and policy making, who is proactive, strategic, and thrives in a fast-paced, international environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support client relationships and projects across multiple industries, ensuring high-quality execution and strategic alignment.
Provide strategic government relations and advocacy support, offering policy recommendations to clients.
Conduct policy research and analysis, monitoring relevant laws, regulations, and political developments.
Drive business development, identifying new opportunities, drafting proposals, and expanding service offerings.
Actively network with potential clients to strengthen relationships and generate business leads.
Represent the company at industry events, forums, and client meetings to enhance visibility and credibility.
Develop and maintain relationships with partner firms in the UK and Europe.
Build and oversee a pool of senior advisors, including former ambassadors and senior government officials, to support client projects and broaden the firm's advisory capabilities.
Collaborate with teams across regions to ensure seamless coordination and knowledge-sharing.
Mentor and guide the London team, fostering a high-performing and growth-oriented culture.
What We’re Looking For
Leadership & Strategy: Proven experience managing teams, leading projects, and driving strategic initiatives.
Business Development: Strong skills in networking, client acquisition, and business growth.
Bilingual Proficiency: Fluent in English and Japanese (written and spoken).
Industry Expertise: Minimum 10 years of experience in government relations, public policy, corporate affairs, consulting, or a related field.
Policy Knowledge: Deep understanding of Japanese politics and policy-making processes.
Analytical & Communication Skills: Excellent research, writing, and presentation abilities.
Adaptability & Problem-Solving: Proactive, creative, and results-driven mindset.
International Experience: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, global environment.
Education & Qualifications
A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in public policy, political science, economics, international relations, communications, law, or a related field.
