Trading/Food Standards Officer

I am working with a local authority in Wales who are wanting someone to deliver Food Standards and Trading Standards functions within the Council, ensuring compliance with food legislation and protecting consumers through inspection, investigation and enforcement activities.

Key Responsibilities

* Undertake Food Standards inspections and interventions in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice.

* Investigate complaints relating to food standards, food labelling, allergens, food fraud and consumer protection.

* Carry out food sampling, surveillance and enforcement activities.

* Provide advice and guidance to food businesses to improve compliance.

* Prepare evidence and case files for formal enforcement action where required.

* Maintain accurate records and contribute to service targets and regulatory programmes.

* Liaise with partner agencies including the Food Standards Agency and neighbouring authorities.

Essential Requirements

* Experience working within a Local Authority Food Standards or Trading Standards service.

* Knowledge of Food Standards legislation, food labelling, allergens and enforcement procedures.

* Experience undertaking inspections, investigations and compliance work.

* Ability to manage a varied caseload and work independently.

* Strong communication and report-writing skills
