Traffic Signal Engineer Location: Lincolnshire Rate: £350 per day Contract: 6 months with a view to extend
Spencer Clarke Group are supporting a local authority to appoint a Traffic Signal Engineer within their Highway Asset Management function.
This is a hands on contract role supporting the delivery and improvement of the council's traffic signals service. You will lead on the day to day oversight of maintenance activity, monitor key systems including SCOOT, and support programmes of renewal, upgrades and improvements, including initiatives linked to smart cities and the council's zero carbon ambitions.
Responsibilities include * Leading on the development and implementation of local policies and procedures for traffic signals, including VMS * Supervising and coordinating day to day traffic signal maintenance activity with the term maintenance contractor * Monitoring traffic signal performance and associated systems (including SCOOT and wireless communications) and ensuring faults are reported and resolved promptly * Providing technical input on designs, commissioning activity and new installations, including supporting FAT and SAT where required * Managing and supporting annual programmes of renewal, upgrade and replacement works * Supporting budget monitoring for revenue and capital activity linked to traffic signals * Producing clear reports that explain technical issues in a way stakeholders can understand * Supporting service improvements through new technology, improved standards and efficiency initiatives * Handling enquiries, complaints and stakeholder issues relating to traffic signals as they arise
About you * HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering (or a closely related discipline) * At least 3 years experience maintaining traffic signal equipment and overseeing contractors * Good knowledge of traffic signals legislation and highway asset management approaches * Strong understanding of health and safety requirements within highways and construction environments * Experience managing workloads, priorities and contributing to programmes of work * Confident communicator, able to write concise updates and explain technical matters clearly * Comfortable using IT systems including databases and Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams * Full UK driving licence
