Job Description - Trainee Science Teacher

About the Role & Grad2Teach Programme

This Graduate Trainee Science Teacher role is part of the Grad2Teach salaried initial teacher training programme—a financially supported, classroom-based route into teaching.

You will:
  • Begin by delivering Science lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4

  • Progress through Grad2Teach’s structured two-phase training model

  • Work toward a PGCE with QTS, awarded by Coventry University

  • Receive a salary throughout your training—no tuition fees required

  • Benefit from expert mentoring, tailored coaching, and a curriculum aligned with the Teaching Standards and Core Content Framework

Training Structure:Phase 1:
  • Support with lesson planning and delivery

  • Assist in practical experiments, demonstrations, and student interventions

  • Develop classroom and behaviour management strategies

Phase 2:
  • Independently teach lessons (up to 18 hours per week)

  • Continue to build subject expertise and pedagogical skills

  • Complete PGCE assignments and formal assessments

Candidate Requirements

To be eligible for this role, applicants must:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree—ideally in a Science-related subject (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics)

  • Demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to professional growth

  • Hold (or be working towards) GCSEs in English and Maths (flexibility may be available in Phase 1)
