Hours of Work: Full Time (37.5 hours per week). Core hours are 09:00 until 17:30, Mon – Fri.
Line Manager: Volunteer Development Manager

Salary: £28,000 - £30,000
Role Purpose
The goal for the Volunteer & Competitor Development Team is to develop a culture emphasising quality, continuous improvement, teamwork, and high performance with an ability to handle all Learning and Development matters relating to our volunteer Marshals and Officials, Regions, and Clubs.
The Training & Development Coordinator will be responsible for supporting and delivering long-term recruitment, retention, recognition and training programmes to ensure there are sufficient competent volunteers to support permitted events.
Please note that this role specifically looks after the training and development of our Officials, Marshals, Regions and Clubs, and not involved with Staff Human Resource development. As such, prior experience within sport or volunteer development and/or any motorsport experience, is desirable.
Primary Objectives
The primary objectives associated with this role will be:
1. Assist in the creation, logistics and delivery of training materials and programmes for our staff, trainers, competitors, and volunteer communities through undertaking Training Needs Analysis including support with the development, preparation and where appropriate delivery of seminars and workshops for relevant stakeholders within the sport.
2. Manage and maintain Learning/Volunteer/Event Management systems ensuring that any relevant volunteer can easily access event and training information via our various channels.
3. Ensure all Volunteers (licensed officials, registered marshals & club/event officials) have access to information to assist them from their first connection with Motorsport UK through to a long-term enjoyment as a volunteer in motorsport.
Additional Responsibilities
In addition to the primary objectives listed above, the Training & Development Coordinator will:
- Support the Marcomms Team to ensure the relevant touch points throughout the Communication processes from the Getting Started Website through to the Social Media posts are relevant, appropriate and sufficient, providing additional information whenever necessary.
- Maintain the statistics required to keep the Recruitment, Retention & Recognition programmes vibrant and delivering meaningful outcomes.
- Work with the Events Team to promote volunteering opportunities as part of the ongoing recruitment programmes
- Evaluate and maintain the Volunteer/Event Management Systems and ensure they are delivering value for money and providing volunteers and clubs with the required information as well as ensuring participation data is up to date and can inform future initiatives.
- Ensure all materials, whether face-to-face or online, are engaging, up to date, and in line with corporate standards including updating and developing online training modules for the Learning Hub.
- Manage the Qualsafe Awards and Delivery programme for Marshals through to Rescue Crew
- Working with the Volunteer Development Manager, develop and implement a registration programme that ensures all appropriate marshals and officials are registered or licensed with Motorsport UK
- Ensure webinar videos are edited and, where appropriate, shared with members/made available online.
- Take responsibility for providing input to and the day to day management of the Volunteer Development budget, manage, monitor and reconcile the actual spend against budget on a monthly basis
- Provide Secretariat support services to relevant committees, panels and working groups.
- Respond to incoming queries and issues from Officials/Marshals/Trainers in accordance with the Teams SLAs
- Manage the relevant inboxes e.g. [email protected] and respond in a timely manner, escalating when necessary.
- Provide support for any external/commercial training requirements including administration, logistics and the creation/delivery of training materials
- Assist the Legal and Safeguarding teams with any relevant issues that arise.
Person Specification
This person will
- Have a personal knowledge of either working as or working with volunteers, ideally within a sport environment. Prior motorsport experience is highly desirable.
- Be highly competent with Microsoft office products
- Have experience of developing content for training modules and Learning Management Systems
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels
- Understand the wide demographics and motivations of volunteers
- Be able to respond to all queries from the very challenging to the very sensitive
- Be able to produce management reports and provide insights into the volunteer community through interrogating the statistics and the data
- Have an eye for detail and produce accurate reports and financial data for budget purposes
- Be self-disciplined in order to work to both personal and organisational deadlines
- Understand the fundamentals of IT systems and how they connect with the volunteering world
- A full clean driving licence and the ability to travel to training events
