At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.

We are professionals with purpose, beating cancer every day.

We have an opportunity for a Translational Scientist to join our Translational Science Team in the CRUK Centre for Drug Development (CDD). This is an excellent opportunity to drive scientific strategy within project teams. You’ll work with CDD partners to develop preclinical datasets for your assigned projects and will be fully involved in all scientific aspects of the design and delivery of our clinical trials.

About The Team

The Cancer Research UK Centre for Drug Development (CDD) is a team of around 100 staff with core skills in early phase drug development. The CDD sits at the heart of the charity’s innovation network of Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres and serves as a pivotal enabler for the translation of novel therapeutic concepts from bench to bedside. We are now set to embark on an exciting period of growth and strategic evolution that will underpin our ambition to become the ‘go-to’ European centre for drug development in the non-commercial sector. We have recently put in place collaborative agreements with likeminded funders of cancer research, the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF) and the Norwegian Cancer Society (NCS) to support joint efforts in translating research into real patient benefit.

What will you be doing?

  • Working with project teams within CRUK’s CDD to support a wide range of therapeutic agents from portfolio entry through to Phase 1 and 2 trials.
  • Applying your knowledge to define and support preclinical and translational activities for novel therapeutics.
  • Designing, delivering and documenting preclinical studies and/or scientific justifications adequate to support acceptance of clinical trial authorisation applications.
  • Working closely with biotech and pharma partners, clinical investigators and other scientific experts to provide data to inform the design of First-in-Human clinical trials.
  • Supporting placement of bioanalytical assays and management and interpretation of emerging data from clinical trials

What skills are we looking for?

  • A degree in a Scientific discipline relevant to drug development and extensive experience in preclinical evaluation of anti-cancer therapeutics.
  • Track record of involvement in formulating preclinical and translational strategies to support clinical development, preferably in oncology.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory frameworks for early drug development in oncology and/or regulated bioanalysis.
  • Experience of working with contract research organisations to carry out pharmacology, toxicology or bioanalytical studies.
  • Ability to draft and review relevant sections of Investigator's brochures and clinical study protocols with excellent attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and confidence to represent your function on project teams.
  • Comfortable to work on several project teams concurrently, and to be a good team player and communicator
