About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Transport Controller / Planner to join a busy transport operation based at our client's Cannock depot.
This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and proactive transport professional with experience in UK road freight, transport planning or logistics coordination. You will be responsible for planning and coordinating daily collections and deliveries, working closely with hauliers, customers and internal teams to ensure a high level of service.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and reacting quickly to operational changes.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and coordinate daily UK collections and deliveries, ensuring customer requirements and service levels are met.
* Monitor vehicle movements and transport activity, proactively managing delays, breakdowns, traffic issues and changes to customer requirements.
* Liaise with hauliers, subcontractors and transport partners to ensure collections and deliveries are completed as planned.
* Re-plan transport movements and prioritise urgent or time-critical shipments where required.
* Ensure efficient utilisation of vehicles, hauliers and transport resources.
* Resolve transport and customer issues promptly and professionally.
* Maintain accurate shipment records and complete all transport administration using internal systems.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, hauliers and internal teams.
* Ensure transport activities are completed in line with company procedures and compliance requirements.
About You
The ideal candidate will have previous experience within UK road freight, transport planning, haulage or logistics operations and will be confident coordinating multiple movements in a busy environment.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Previous experience in UK road freight, transport planning or logistics.
* Good understanding of UK transport and haulage operations, with strong geographical knowledge of the UK.
* Excellent communication, organisational and customer service skills.
* Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and solve problems effectively.
* Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
* Experience using a Transport Management System (TMS) or similar logistics software.
* Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach.
Desirable
* Experience managing subcontracted hauliers or transport partners.
* Knowledge of UK transport compliance and industry regulations.
* Experience within pallet network or general haulage operations.
* Understanding of transport KPIs and service performance reporting.
