Job Description - Transport Manager

Kinaxia are looking for a Transport Manager to join our team at our site in Colchester. The successful candidate will to ensure 100% compliance with legal and operator licensing requirements, while leading and developing a safe, accountable, and high-performing staff culture.

About the Job:

Regulatory Compliance & Standards

Operator Licence Integrity: Serve as the named CPC holder to guarantee continuous legal compliance with all DVSA traffic commissioner requirements.
FORS Accreditation: Maintain and advance Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme standards, managing audits to maintain status.
Drivers' Hours & WTD: Oversee rigorous tachograph analysis to ensure absolute adherence to EU/UK drivers' hours regulations and the Road Transport Working Time Directive. With the aim of achieving Earned Recognition.
Safe Systems of Work (SSOW): Design, implement, and review risk assessments and SSOW for all transport, loading, and yard activities.
Health & Safety Excellence: Act as the department champion for H&S, ensuring full compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Staff Performance & Culture

Culture Transformation: Foster an open, accountable, "Safety First" team culture that bridges the gap between office staff and drivers.
Performance Management: Conduct regular driver appraisals, manage attendance, and handle disciplinary or grievance procedures in line with HR policies.
Continuous Training: Identify training gaps, manage CPC periodic training modules, and deliver targeted tool-box talks based on infringement data.
Fatigue Management: Design and monitor rosters to protect driver well-being, manage stress, and prevent operational burnout.
KPI Monitoring & Reporting

Performance Tracking: Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly transport KPIs including fuel efficiency, on-time delivery (OTIF), and vehicle downtime.
Board-Level Reporting: Compile and present detailed compliance, financial, and operational reports to the senior leadership team.
Infringement Mitigation: Track driver error trends, reporting immediately on repeat offenders and executing formal retraining plans.
Policies & Procedures

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Write, update, and enforce robust transport policies regarding defect reporting, drug and alcohol testing, and accident management.
Audit Readiness: Maintain flawless, audit-ready digital and physical records for all vehicle maintenance, driver hours, and training logs.

Your knowledge and experience:

Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) Required
IOSH - Desirable

EU tachograph requirements, Working Time Regulations,
Road Transport Regulations
General Haulage
Pallet Network
Commercial awareness

Health and Safety regulations
5+ years transport management experience
Managing and developing a team of employees
Only candidates based in UK and eligible to work in UK are allowed
