Help Shape Nottingham's Urban Forest


Are you an experienced arboricultural professional looking to make a real impact on one of the UK's most ambitious urban forestry programmes?


Nottingham City Council is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Tree Officer to help manage, protect and enhance the city's extensive tree stock and woodland assets. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering the Council's Urban Forest Strategy, ensuring Nottingham remains a greener, healthier and more sustainable city for future generations.


About the Role


As a Tree Officer, you'll work alongside colleagues, contractors and stakeholders to deliver a professional arboricultural management service across the city.


Your responsibilities will include:


✅ Undertaking tree inspections, surveys and risk assessments.


✅ Managing and monitoring tree maintenance programmes and budgets.


✅ Providing professional arboricultural advice to residents, schools, developers and Council services.


✅ Supporting the delivery of Nottingham's Urban Forest Strategy.


✅ Managing emergency tree incidents and participating in the out-of-hours rota.


✅ Producing technical reports, management plans and work specifications.


✅ Overseeing contractors and ensuring work is completed to a high standard.


✅ Leading on consultations, community engagement and tree planting initiatives.


✅ Acting as an advocate for Nottingham's trees and green spaces.


About You


We're looking for someone who combines technical arboricultural expertise with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.


Arboricultural qualification equivalent to QCF Level 4 in Arboriculture.


Significant experience undertaking tree inspections, surveys and risk management.


Sound knowledge of arboricultural legislation, industry standards and health and safety requirements.


Experience managing contractors, projects and operational programmes.


Strong report-writing and presentation skills.


Ability to confidently engage with residents, developers, councillors and partner organisations.


Experience using tree management systems, GIS mapping tools and Microsoft Office applications.


Full UK driving licence and ability to travel across the city.
