Job Description - UI Designer - Design System

Job Description

UI Designer- Design System
Salary: From £37,000

Last year we completed our most comprehensive rebrand in over 30 years, resulting in an increased focus on our Design System product (NEL). We’re now on a hugely exciting and ambitious journey to evolve the Design System, systematically applying the new brand, and increasing the quality and adoption of the Design System to meet the needs of the organisation and all its digital products and services.

We’re looking for UI Designer to join our Design System team. This role will help us develop the Design System, creating and updating the foundational styles through to the complex patterns within the system. We need this person to work collaboratively with the Lead and Senior Designers in the team to deliver change within the system, resulting in a high-quality product for our designers, developers and ultimately for Nationwide customers.

We’re looking for a designer with an appreciation for Design Systems, someone who can demonstrate they understand the principles of system thinking, and with a keen an eye for UI system design. We’re also looking for someone that can easily collaborate with designers and developers, considering how proposed change may impact the wider design system product.

The Design System team is within the Digital department within the COO function. It supports the delivery of digital products across the whole organisation. Our Design System product is used in customer and colleague facing web platforms and ever expanding to support new audiences and technologies.

This means you’ll need to be comfortable with working collaboratively with other designers, helping shape the experience of Nationwide’s products and services across a variety of platforms and channels.

What makes us different

Nationwide is the world’s largest building society. With over 15 million customers, we have a relationship with almost a quarter of the UK’s population. We’ve got the scale to compete with the big banks,

but we’re not a bank .

As a building society, we’re owned by our members – that’s our customers who have their current account, mortgage or savings with us. It means we can do things differently to deliver our Purpose –

Banking – but fairer, more rewarding, and for the good of society.

When you work at Nationwide, you can experience that difference for yourself. You’ll be part of a high-performing, purpose-driven organisation that offers rewarding career experiences and a highly competitive range of benefits to match. You’ll also be joining us at an important time as we seek to reach more and more people in the UK. We want everyone in the UK to know that they don’t have to bank with a bank. They can choose a modern mutual instead.
