VAT Assistant
Location: Greater Manchester (Northwest, England)
Salary: Up to £32,000 (DOE) + discretionary bonus + benefits package
Working Pattern: Hybrid (3 days in the office / 2 days remote)

The Role
Reporting to the Senior VAT Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting European VAT compliance. Your responsibilities will include the preparation, reconciliation, and submission of VAT returns, along with related reporting. You will also contribute to ensuring VAT accounting accuracy within the general ledger, keeping pace with evolving legislation, and driving continuous improvement across processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit European VAT returns and associated reports.
- Reconcile VAT accounts and ensure integrity of VAT data in the general ledger.
- Support compliance with VAT legislation across multiple jurisdictions and currencies.
- Analyse large volumes of financial data to provide insights that support business decisions.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the business and contribute to improvement initiatives.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Previous VAT experience, ideally with exposure to multi-currency and multinational operations.
- Strong Excel skills with the ability to analyse and interpret complex datasets.
- A curious and questioning mindset, able to connect data insights to wider business issues.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Confident communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Ideally, you will also be studying towards a professional qualification (e.g., AAT, ACCA).
