Vehicle Technician / Plant Engineer

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Vehicle Technician / Plant Engineer to join our growing engineering team.

The role will primarily involve the maintenance, servicing and repair of bin wagons/refuse collection vehicles, with a strong focus on chassis, mechanical and electrical work.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs on bin wagons/refuse collection vehicles.
Undertake chassis repairs and maintenance.
Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults.
Carry out brake inspections, repairs and replacements.
Complete routine filter and oil changes.
Diagnose and replace vehicle sensors.
Inspect, maintain and replace springs and associated components.
Carry out preventative maintenance and safety inspections.
Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in line with health and safety requirements.
Support the wider engineering operation as required.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

Previous experience as a Vehicle Technician, HGV Technician, Plant Engineer or similar.
Experience working on heavy vehicles, plant or refuse collection vehicles would be advantageous.
Strong mechanical maintenance and repair skills.
Experience with chassis work, brakes, servicing and general vehicle maintenance.
Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs effectively.
Electrical/sensor diagnostic experience would be beneficial.
Time-served candidates are welcome to apply.
Relevant technical qualifications are desirable but not essential for the right candidate, provided they have suitable practical experience.

Team Structure

The successful candidate will report to Robert.
The engineering team currently consists of approximately 4-5 engineers.
The department is expected to grow alongside the wider business.

Hours & Shift Pattern

41.5 hours per week
Flexible working hours
Day shifts
Paid overtime after 40 hours at 1.5x basic rate

Salary & Package

Salary: up to £49,635 per annum
Overtime paid at 1.5x after 40 hours
Standard pension
22 days holiday + 8 bank holidays
