Vehicle Technician

Job Description - Vehicle Technician

Vehicle Technician | £45,000–£55,000 | Monday–Friday

Location: London, NW9
Salary: £45,000–£55,000 DOE
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm

Are you a hands-on Vehicle Technician who can think on your feet, solve problems independently and get vehicles back on the road?

I'm working with a business looking for a self-starter to become its first dedicated Vehicle Technician. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys autonomy, takes ownership of their work and wants to make a real impact rather than simply passing problems on to someone else.

The Opportunity :

You'll work alongside an established depot team, taking responsibility for the maintenance, fault-finding and repair of a fleet made up primarily of Volkswagen and Ford diesel vehicles. With electric vehicles expected to join the fleet, there's also an opportunity to develop your EV skills.

As the first technician in the business, you'll help shape how vehicle maintenance is handled going forward. We're looking for someone with a practical, proactive mindset who can assess a fault, diagnose the issue and carry out repairs on-site wherever possible.

What You'll Be Doing :

* Diagnosing faults and carrying out vehicle repairs on-site.

* Maintaining and supporting a fleet consisting primarily of VW and Ford vehicles.

* Taking ownership of vehicle issues from initial assessment through to resolution.

* Applying a strong triage mentality to prioritise repairs and minimise vehicle downtime.

* Working independently while collaborating with the wider depot team.

* Supporting the development of the vehicle maintenance function as the business grows.

* Upskilling in electric vehicle technology as EVs are introduced.

* Providing flexibility during working hours when operational issues arise.

Who We're Looking For :

We're particularly interested in people from the military, AA or RAC, where independent working, practical problem-solving and diagnosing a variety of vehicle faults are part of the job.

You could be a great fit if you:

* Have a solid background in vehicle maintenance, diagnostics and repair.

* Are confident working independently and making sound technical decisions.

* Can diagnose and resolve issues rather than automatically escalating them to a garage.

* Are resourceful, proactive and comfortable being the go-to person.

* Have experience working across different vehicles or fleet types.

* Hold EV training already, or are keen to develop your skills in this area.

Military-trained technicians, including REME, and technicians from the AA or RAC are strongly encouraged to apply. If you're used to working autonomously, diagnosing problems in the field and finding practical solutions, this could be the ideal next step.

What's on Offer?

* £45,000–£55,000 salary, depending on experience.

* Monday–Friday working hours, 8am–5pm.

* The opportunity to take ownership of a new function.

* A varied, hands-on role with real autonomy.

* The chance to develop your EV knowledge as the fleet evolves.

The on-call element is about flexibility during normal working hours when operational issues arise — this is not a middle-of-the-night callout role.

If you're a practical, independent Vehicle Technician who enjoys solving problems and wants the freedom to make a difference, I'd love to hear from you.
