This role sits within a global market function of which the role looks at the EMEA Commodities business.
The role:
• Conduct ongoing evaluation of market risk exposures, concentration levels, and key emerging risks across relevant portfolios
• Work directly with trading teams, providing independent challenge to traders, trading leadership, and strategy groups, with timely escalation of significant risk issues to senior stakeholders
• Participate in the approval process for large or complex transactions, including independent risk reviews, identification of unrecognized exposures, agreement of hedging approaches with the Front Office, establishment of approval criteria, and preparation of clear decision-support documentation
• Contribute to the creation and enhancement of risk methodologies, scenario frameworks, and analytical tools, while collaborating with trading desks, quantitative groups, technology teams, and other internal functions to improve systems and workflows
• Support the evaluation of pricing, risk, and capital models, helping identify weaknesses and working with appropriate teams to remediate material gaps
The candidate experience
• Degree (or equivalent qualification) in a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, engineering, statistics, or a similar field
• At least three years’ experience in the commodities sector, ideally covering energy products (e.g., oil, power, natural gas) or metals
• Strong understanding of risk‑measurement frameworks including Value‑at‑Risk (VaR), stress testing methodologies, and scenario-based analysis for commodity markets
• Excellent analytical capability with a structured approach to problem-solving
