Job Description - Vulnerability Development Officer

A Vulnerability Development Officer is required for a Permanent Contract the role is paying up to £29,076.18 per annum, with the British Transport Police (BTP) based in Birmingham.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing. As a Vulnerability Development Officer with BTP you will to provide timely, high quality and effective background research in respect of vulnerable people in contact with BTP, ensuring that we meet our statutory obligations in terms of mental health, adult at risk and child safeguarding legislation.

You will be responsible for accurate data entry on to local and national systems and work with the Vulnerability Coordinators to ensure that relevant safeguarding actions are completed, and that appropriate information is passed to internal and external stakeholders in a secure and timely manner.

As Vulnerability Development Officer you will be required to:

Conduct background research of NICHE submissions and safeguarding referrals from partners using police systems
Evaluate the usefulness and relevance of information obtained from variety of sources
Collate all person research, creating, updating, and linking NICHE records as required in order to build an accurate picture in support of risk mitigation, referral decisions and briefing requirements
To support the creation and maintenance of data sheets to allow analysis and monitoring to take place
Compile and produce products such as subject briefing documents to inform operational activity/ tasking and sharing with partners
Compile and distribute safeguarding support literature packs and text messages signposting vulnerable individuals to external services
Develop and maintain relationships with partner agencies in order to facilitate research and relevant information sharing
To assist in producing and providing training sessions and advice to operational officer, in order to ensure understanding of processes and improve the quality of information gathering and information submission
To maintain up to date knowledge on Vulnerability Unit policy, procedures and systems
Processing of internal and external correspondence
Other tasks reasonably in line with the role that arise from time to time
Further information about this vacancy can be found in the attached job description. The successful Vulnerability Development Officer will be required to evidence the following:

Educated to 'A' Level/Higher Grade or equivalent.
5 or more GCSE/Standard Grade/National 5 qualifications including Maths and English
Previous experience in conducting research using a wide range of sources
A high level of IT literacy and knowledge of databases

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, an ability to prepare effective and concise written reports
Problem solving and creative thinking
Excellent attention to detail
Effective team working and interpersonal skills
Basic knowledge of Data Protection principles and legislation
Basic knowledge of Freedom of Information principles
