Job Description - Wales Press Officer

Role Summary

Reform UK is seeking a proactive and politically aligned Press Officer to lead our media and communications work across Wales. You will play a critical role in shaping and delivering Reform UK’s message to the Welsh public, helping to communicate our bold, common-sense policies on immigration, law and order, public services, economic growth, and the defence of British culture and values.

This is a fast-paced role for someone who is media-savvy, politically aware, and passionate about making a difference. The successful candidate will be responsible for securing national and regional coverage, crafting high-impact messaging, and ensuring a consistent and persuasive Reform UK voice across press, social media, and public channels in Wales.

Key Responsibilities

Media & Communications

  • Draft, edit, and distribute high-quality press releases, media statements, and articles tailored to Welsh political and cultural contexts.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors and producers across Wales and the UK.

  • Handle day-to-day press enquiries, including rapid rebuttals and crisis communications where required.

  • Act as a key contact for Welsh media, ensuring Reform UK spokespeople are visible, prepared and on-message.

Social Media & Digital Content

  • Manage Reform UK Wales’ social media accounts, particularly X (formerly Twitter), ensuring a consistent tone of voice and compelling narrative.

  • Work closely with the national digital team to produce impactful visual and video content for campaign use.

  • Monitor online sentiment and engagement, using analytics to inform strategy and content development.

Campaigns & Messaging

  • Collaborate with the national communications team to deliver innovative, locally-relevant media campaigns across Wales.

  • Develop messaging and materials to support Reform UK policies on infrastructure, economy, immigration, education, and cultural identity in Wales.

  • Support media events, press conferences, and campaign visits across Wales.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track media coverage and provide timely summaries and insights to senior staff.

  • Contribute to weekly comms reports and strategic planning sessions.

  • Monitor developments in Welsh politics, the Senedd, and public opinion to inform messaging and positioning.

Essential Criteria

  • A strong and demonstrable commitment to the values and aims of Reform UK.

  • Proven experience in a press office, journalism, or communications role.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to write clearly and persuasively.

  • Understanding of the Welsh and UK media landscapes, with existing or emerging journalist contacts.

  • Confident managing social media accounts, particularly political messaging on X.

  • Comfortable working under pressure, meeting tight deadlines, and responding to fast-moving events.

  • Strong understanding of Welsh political and cultural issues.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working in political communications or with a political organisation.

  • Knowledge of the Senedd, devolved Welsh governance, and regional public policy debates.

  • Basic design, video editing or content creation skills (e.g. Canva, Adobe, CapCut) to enhance campaigns.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong news judgement and political instincts.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and message discipline.

  • Organised, reliable, and capable of juggling competing priorities.

  • Confident, articulate and media-friendly under pressure.

  • A team player, able to work collaboratively with colleagues across the UK.
