Job Title: Solutions Design Engineer
Location: East Midlands (Hybrid)
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000
Role Responsibilities
Design and develop warehouse layouts and material flow solutions, incorporating automation technologies to improve efficiency and scalability. Partner closely with the commercial/sales team to support customer proposals, tenders, and solution presentations. Conduct site visits and operational assessments to understand customer requirements and translate them into practical, value-driven designs. Produce layout drawings, process flows, and capacity models to support solution development. Evaluate and recommend automation solutions (e.g. conveyors, ASRS, robotics, picking systems) aligned to client needs and ROI. Support the end-to-end solution lifecycle from concept through to implementation, ensuring alignment with operational and commercial objectives. Develop cost models, business cases, and ROI analysis to ensure solutions are commercially viable. Collaborate with operations, engineering, and project delivery teams to ensure smooth handover and execution. Stay up to date with emerging automation technologies and industry trends to continuously enhance solution offerings. Identify risks, constraints, and dependencies early in the design phase to ensure successful project outcomes.
Key Experience & Skills
Experience in solutions design within logistics, supply chain, or warehousing environments. Strong background in warehouse layout design, process optimisation, and material flow. Exposure to or experience with warehouse automation technologies (e.g. robotics, sortation, AMRs, ASRS). Ability to work collaboratively with commercial teams, supporting bids, tenders, and client engagement. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience building cost/benefit models. Proficiency in design and modelling tools (e.g. AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar preferred). Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, both internal and client-facing. Understanding of tender/bid processes is advantageous.
