Waste Water Operative - (Solo Solver)

Department:
Sapphire Utility Solutions, a Lanes Group Company specialise in multiple divisions.

United Utilities operates across a number of contracts across our business, predominantly wastewater network services as part of the AMP 7 period plan.

The Team support reactive and planned maintenance across the CCTV & Jetting and Civils teams, further supported by our in house Traffic Management Division and Capital Projects covering the entire UU network.

Purpose of the role:

As a Solo Solver, you’ll be one of the first points of contact when wastewater incidents or customer issues arise.You’ll investigate problems, identify what has caused them and make sure the appropriate action is taken. You’ll also help ensure customers receive a professional and efficient service throughout the process.The role is practical and varied, with much of the work carried out independently as a “Solo Solver”. You could be responding to blockages, odours or pest incidents, carrying out investigations and inspections, and taking ownership of resolving issues safely and effectively, while liaising with specialist teams where more complex support is required.

Location: Leyland

• Hours: 50 hours per week.
• Salary: £16.73 per hour

Key Responsibilities:

• Respond to wastewater incidents, including flooding, blockages, Pest and equipment problems.
• Investigate issues and identify their underlying causes.
• Carry out practical work such as high-pressure water jetting and CCTV surveys where required.
• Communicate with customers and provide clear updates throughout an incident.
• Work closely with colleagues, contractors and external partners to resolve problems efficiently.
• Follow all health and safety requirements and environmental procedures.
• Record incident information accurately and complete relevant reports.
• Issue appropriate notices when access to private property is required for essential work.
• Keep customers informed from the beginning of an incident through to completion.

Key Requirements

Skills & Experience:

•  A full UK driving licence.

• 5 GCSEs (A–C) or equivalent, including Maths and English.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work alone effectively along with different teams and departments when necessary.
• Strong organisation and time-management skills.
• A practical approach to investigating and resolving problems.
• The ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with pressure or difficult situations.
• Good written communication skills and the ability to produce clear and accurate reports

Desirable:

• The ability and willingness to work in confined spaces.
• An understanding of water industry standards and regulatory requirements.
