Job Description - Water quailty scientist

An exciting and newly created role, the Water Quality Scientist will support the Water Quality and Regulation Manager in their duties to ensure that AWIN remains complaint with the regulatory standards for water quality and water supply.

We are flexible on your location, however, you will be required to attend meetings at our Braintree HQ.

The role requires an individual who is willing to develop their knowledge across multiple scientific disciplines, including elements of water quality, soil science, and public health.

As a new start up there is the potential for this role to develop as AWIN establishes itself in the NAV marketplace.

With this, you must be flexible and willing to support in all areas of the business if requested to do so.

Whilst a significant proportion of your duties will involve data analysis and report writing, there will also be the opportunity to carry out site inspections and interface with developers, customers and regulators.

So, what will I be doing? You will initially work as part of a small team responsible for ensuring AWIN maintains compliance with its regulatory duties and its own compliance framework.

You will also be responsible for carrying out the following tasks following successful completion of required training: Ensuring water quality sampling and analysis requirements are correctly scheduled with the contract laboratory and that results are received in line with SLA’s.

Analysis and reporting of water quality data, including preparation and submission of the monthly compliance tables to the Drinking Water Inspectorate.

Undertaking Drinking Water Safety Plan assessments (water quality risk management) for new and existing developments.

The interpretation and assessment of contaminated land soil reports for the purposes of pipe material selection.

Investigating customer water quality complaints and sample failures, including onsite inspections.

Auditing partner organisations compliance against regulatory, industry and internal standards.

Liaison with incumbent water company water quality teams to ensure that the requirements of the bulk supply water quality protocols are met.

Assist in the maintenance of the Water Quality and Regulation Manual to ensure the information and references contained within the documents are current.

Maintain the water quality pages on the company website and social media.

Support the out of hours rota as and when is required including the delivery of alternative supplies in the event of a water quality incident.

The Person: Ideally you will be educated to degree level or equivalent and hold a degree in a science or engineering discipline.

Preferably this would be in a water, soil or another environmental science or engineering subject.

You will need to be confident in written and verbal communication skills, as the role requires you to write scientific reports and present information verbally to stakeholders.

You should be competent in using: Excel for data analysis Microsoft word for writing and formatting documents Microsoft Power Point for preparing presentations.

If you have experience within the following areas, this will enhance your application.

The use of geographical Information Systems such as Arc GIS.

Ever contributed to the development of Drinking Water Safety Plan (Reg27 risk assessment) and associated reporting (Reg28 reporting) Knowledge of drinking water quality matters, especially the water quality regulations and guidance, water quality reporting and drinking water safety planning.

Experience of working in a licensed water company ideally in a water quality team.

For your application be successful, you must hold a valid UK driving license and be willing to travel within England.
