Job Description - Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives Engineer

Location: Hybrid – MOD Abbey Wood (attendance typically 1–2 days per week, plus occasional UK trials)

Rate: Up to £550 per day (Inside IR35)

Duration: ASAP to 30/06/2026 (extension possible)

Deadline for Applications: 02/03/2026 at 10:00pm

Clearance: SC Clearance required prior to start (UK Nationals only)

 

Overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (WOME) Engineer to support the Dismounted Close Combat & Defence General Munitions team within MOD Land Equipment.

The role focuses on the assurance and introduction to service of new ammunition and Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (OME) capability, ensuring safe, compliant and effective delivery into operational use.

You will work closely with Project Management, Safety and Senior Engineering colleagues within Abbey Wood and at UK trial locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assurance of new ammunition and OME capability.
  • Supporting the development and sign-off of Safety Cases.
  • Gathering and reviewing key technical data.
  • Supporting the introduction of new ammunition into service.
  • Preparation and submission of ASHE and associated documentation.
  • Supporting Introduction to Service paperwork and governance.
  • Attendance at UK trials as required.

Essential Experience

  • Ammunition and light weapons assurance experience.
  • Experience introducing Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (OME) into service.
  • Experience operating within MOD delivery environments.
  • Strong understanding of ammunition safety and assurance processes.

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of the CADMID lifecycle, particularly the Manufacture and In-Service phases.
  • Experience working within Land Equipment programmes.
