The growth of bp requires Production & Operations (P&O) to deliver resilient hydrocarbons and remain competitive beyond 2030. Role Summary
North Sea & Atlantic Margins region is looking for qualified candidates to fill a Wells Superintendent role, which is an S&OR Critical Role. The Wells Superintendent is accountable for safe, compliant and reliable well activities on a deepwater vessels, integrated platforms and jack up rigs in the North Sea, operating within the UK Safety Case regime and a mature, late life asset environment.
The Wells Superintendent holds an important integration role between multiple teams in the organization to deliver these well activities in support of BP’s overall targets and metrics. The successful candidate will champion a speak up culture and support the offshore team by balancing demands to assure space is created for Site Safety and Operations as the primary focus, particularly during weather constrained, SIMOPS intensive, and high risk operations.
The successful candidate will lead in line with BP’s Code of Conduct and will demonstrate Core and Role Specific Competencies in line with BP Guide 100521 Safety and Operational Risk (S+OR) Competence Profile and Interpretation – Wells Superintendent (WSUP).
Key Accountabilities:
Single point of accountability (SPA) for all well activities during the Execute phase of well activity, including final authority for operational risk decisions, Management of Change (MoC), and stop work decisions.
Accountable for leading the well site operations team in the safe execution of well construction activities (drilling and completion), workover and intervention activities in the field as per the well plan / BOD to achieve project objectives, cost and schedule, while maintaining barrier integrity and regulatory compliance.
Assures compliance with UK regulatory requirements, including the HSE Safety Case regime and NSTA expectations, and conformance with all BP practices and procedures.
Accountable for Wells HSE performance by demonstrating visible commitment and leadership in all HSE matters and assuring delivery of the Business HSE objectives and the Wells Safety Plan.
Assures the health of the barriers for handling risk through the Wells Self Verification process, during rig calls and regular Leadership Rig Inspections applying the Leadership Field Inspection process, with particular focus on late life well integrity risks.
Accountable for well integrity management throughout execution, including barrier assurance, integrity anomaly management, sustained casing pressure considerations, and risk based intervention decision making.
Responsible for leading contractor performance and relationships by holding service providers accountable for HSSE, technical integrity, and execution standards, ensuring delivery consistent with well program objectives.
Accountable for instilling a performance culture in the team and building continuous improvement into the team’s deliverables – measured by operational and HSE performance. Drives operational standardization and continuous improvement through utilization of global guidelines, after action reviews and conformance to NWcp, while balancing safety, integrity, schedule, and cost in a value focused UKCS environment.
Leads risk based operational decision making in weather constrained and SIMOPS environments, including suspension, restart, and contingency planning.
Serves as the primary collaborator with Drilling / Completion / Intervention Engineering, New Well Delivery, Reservoir Development and Base Management for the development of robust operational plans.
Essential Education
Degree in a qualified engineering, science or technical field.
Well Control Certification for Drilling.
Ability to go offshore, including necessary offshore medicals, certification and training.
Essential experience and job requirements
Proven strong experience in delivering well operations as per the SOR and performance expectations.
Demonstrable HSSE leadership in leading safe, compliant, reliable operations without sacrificing operational efficiency
Experience in managing service provider contractual relationships and driving performance through clear accountability and intervention when required
Experience in excelling at the fundamentals of drilling and completion operations, having demonstrated capability to drill and complete challenging wells across deepwater, platform, and jack up environments, including complex and late life well operations.
Experience in integration of engineering planning with operations execution and risk management
Experience working in, and successfully influencing, multidisciplinary teams that include the offshore team, Drilling / Completion / Intervention Engineering, Subsurface, Projects, and/or Production teams
Able to balance multiple demands and priorities across teams and demonstrate sound, timely decision making based on what is best for the company, often under weather, operational, and regulatory pressure.
Demonstrates strong and effective communication skills apprising all partners of ongoing operational and HSE performance
Other Requirements
Successfully close all gaps associated with the Wells Superintendent Competency Assessment in line with S+OR appointment requirements.
Travel
Yes – up to 25%
Expectation to conduct 10 Leadership Field Inspections per year (does not necessarily equate to 10 rig visits)
