Woodwork Technician

Location: Northampton
Start Date: September 2025 | Full-Time | Permanent & Long-Term Opportunities

Are you a practical, safety-focused individual with a passion for hands-on learning? Do you enjoy working in creative environments and supporting young people in their development?

Secondary schools across Northampton are looking for reliable and skilled Woodwork Technicians to join their Design & Technology (D&T) teams from September 2025. These full-time roles are ideal for someone with a background in carpentry, joinery, or workshop support, who is keen to contribute to education in a meaningful way.

About the Role:
  • Support the delivery of woodwork and D&T lessons by preparing materials, tools, and resources

  • Maintain workshop machinery and ensure a safe, clean, and well-organised working environment

  • Assist teachers and students during practical sessions, offering technical guidance and promoting safe working practices

  • Monitor and manage stock levels, ordering materials and equipment as needed

  • Carry out routine safety checks on tools and machinery, maintaining accurate records

  • Support displays of student work and assist in whole-school events or project-based learning activities

  • Contribute to a culture of creativity, precision, and respect for craftsmanship

We're Looking For:
  • Experience in woodwork, carpentry, joinery, or a similar practical trade

  • A proactive, hands-on approach with excellent organisational skills

  • Confidence using tools, machinery, and workshop equipment (e.g. band saws, drills, sanding machines)

  • Awareness of workshop health & safety, and willingness to complete relevant training (e.g. COSHH, risk assessments)

  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset

  • Previous experience in a school or educational environment is desirable but not essential

  • A DBS certificate (or willingness to apply) is required

What's on Offer:
  • Full-time, permanent positions across supportive and welcoming school environments

  • Opportunities for training in health & safety, safeguarding, and technical skills

  • A varied and rewarding role supporting student creativity, practical learning, and vocational development

  • Potential for career progression into senior technician roles or D&T teaching assistant positions

  • Join a school team where your technical skills directly impact student progress and confidence

If you're passionate about craftsmanship, education, and supporting the next generation of makers and designers, apply now for Woodwork Technician roles in Northampton secondary schools, starting September 2025.
