Job Title: Workshop Foreman – Development Role
Location: Wellingborough Department: Workshop Reports To: Workshop Manager
Hourly rate - £23.86
Job Purpose:
This development role is designed to support the progression of a skilled technician or senior engineer into the role of Workshop Foreman. The successful candidate will work closely with the Workshop Manager and existing foreman to gain the necessary leadership, planning, and operational skills to manage daily workshop functions, ensuring that repair and maintenance tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in supervising and coordinating day-to-day workshop operations, ensuring workload is distributed efficiently among the team
Act as the point of contact between technicians, management, and support staff to ensure clear communication and task progression
Monitor job progress, quality of workmanship, and adherence to safety and compliance standards
Support the preparation and scheduling of maintenance and repair tasks based on operational priorities
Assist in the mentoring, coaching, and development of junior technicians and apprentices
Maintain accurate job cards, time records, and ensure all documentation is completed to company standards
Liaise with parts and stores departments to ensure timely availability of necessary parts and materials
Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and other team communication initiatives
Proactively identify areas for improvement in workshop processes, safety practices, and service delivery
Provide cover and take on full foreman responsibilities during absences or holidays of the primary foreman
Skills & Experience Required:
Proven background as a skilled technician or engineer in vehicle/trailer maintenance or a similar industry
Strong understanding of workshop procedures, compliance standards, and safety regulations
Ability to read and interpret service schedules, maintenance plans, and diagnostic reports
Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and leadership potential, with a proactive and hands-on approach
Competence with IT systems and workshop management tools (preferred but not essential)
Willingness to develop leadership and supervisory skills through training and on-the-job experience
