Are you a hands-on leader with a background in HGV fitting or commercial vehicle bodywork? Our client – a leading player in the commercial vehicle sector – is seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to join their team in Lowestoft.

As Workshop Manager, you’ll be at the helm of a busy, well-equipped bodyshop, overseeing the daily operations of a skilled team of HGV Fitters and Technicians. You’ll take charge of complex builds and installations involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems – all while ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency remain front and centre.

Key Requirements:

• Leading and managing daily workshop operations, including scheduling and resource planning
• Supervising a team of HGV Fitters, Technicians, and Apprentices
• Overseeing the assembly and fitting of HGV trucks and trailers
• Ensuring all work meets customer requirements and manufacturer standards
• Coordinating with procurement, engineering, and sales teams to ensure a seamless workflow
• Driving health & safety compliance and fostering a culture of safety
• Conducting quality inspections and troubleshooting technical issues
• Monitoring performance metrics and managing workshop reporting systems
• Supporting recruitment and onboarding of new workshop staff
• Ensuring equipment and tools are properly maintained

What We're Looking For:

• Proven experience in a Workshop Manager or Supervisor role within a commercial vehicle or HGV setting
• Strong technical expertise in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
• Background in HGV fitting, coachbuilding, or heavy vehicle maintenance
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
• Competent with workshop software and reporting tools
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Vehicle Body Building, HGV Maintenance or similar

Desirable Extras:

• Experience in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement
• Certifications such as IOSH, NEBOSH, IRTEC
• Welding and fabrication skills
• Class 1 or 2 HGV Licence
• Forklift Licence
