A well-established engineering and manufacturing business is seeking a Workshop Operative to join its production team and support the manufacture, assembly, and testing of new machinery and spare parts.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a practical, hands-on approach who enjoys working in an engineering environment and takes pride in producing high-quality work. You will be based within the company’s workshop, working as part of a close-knit engineering team and contributing to the successful build and dispatch of new machines.
The role is primarily workshop-based, although there may be occasional requirements to attend customer or supplier sites, undertake training, or support investigations relating to customer complaints and aftercare.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacture and assemble new machines and spare parts on the shop floor Use tools and production equipment safely and effectively Ensure tools and equipment are maintained and checked regularly Test new machines before dispatch Follow company health and safety procedures at all times Support non-conformance and customer complaint reviews Work closely with colleagues to maintain high standards of production and quality Support and mentor new apprentices where required Identify personal training needs and communicate these with your line manager Contribute to a positive, professional, and disciplined working environment Lead by example and maintain high standards of workmanship Support continuous improvement across manufacturing operations Attend customer or supplier sites when required Assist with customer aftercare and operational investigations where necessary Carry out any other reasonable tasks required by the business Requirements
Minimum of 8 GCSEs or equivalent, ideally grade C or above Previous experience working within an engineering or manufacturing environment is desirable Good understanding of engineering and manufacturing processes Health and safety awareness or formal training within a production environment Methodical and thorough approach to work Good communication skills and ability to work well as part of a team Positive, can-do attitude with a willingness to learn Strong problem-solving skills Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to change Competent using IT equipment Good standard of written and spoken English Professional attitude with strong standards of conduct and discipline Desirable
Understanding of ISO 9001 quality management principles Understanding of ISO 14001 environmental management principles Forklift, IPAF, or relevant materials-handling certification Experience assembling or testing industrial machinery Previous experience working within a production environment Package
