Year 1 Teacher | Newham

A welcoming primary school in Newham is seeking an enthusiastic Year 1 Teacher to join the team from January 2026. The successful Year 1 Teacher will deliver a structured phonics programme, plan progressive Year 1 lessons and build strong foundations in early reading, writing and number. The Year 1 Teacher will follow medium-term plans, run guided-reading and phonics groups, deliver targeted small-group work and liaise with families to secure progress. The Year 1 Teacher will work with teaching assistants and phase leaders to moderate standards and to contribute to whole-school improvement. The Newham setting offers strong CPD and a supportive leadership team for the Year 1 Teacher.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver progressive Year 1 lessons that develop phonics, early reading and number fluency.


• Lead guided-reading and phonics groups and run targeted small-group tuition.


• Use assessment to identify next steps and adapt lessons to secure progress for Year 1 pupils.


• Work with TAs to scaffold learning and prepare resources for Year 1 lessons.


• Communicate with parents and contribute to Year 1 moderation and reporting in Newham.

Person specification

• Qualified teacher with recent KS1 experience and proven Year 1 classroom impact.


• Strong phonics knowledge, excellent routines and the ability to create a nurturing Year 1 environment.


• Reflective, organised and enthusiastic about working in Newham; available to start January 2026.
