Year 5 Teacher | Havering

A forward-looking primary school in Havering is seeking an energetic Year 5 Teacher to join the Key Stage 2 phase from January 2026. This Year 5 Teacher will teach a mixed-ability class, plan sequenced curriculum units that develop pupils’ knowledge, reasoning and writing stamina, and lead targeted small-group work. The successful Year 5 Teacher will collaborate with subject leads to refine medium-term plans and support wider school initiatives across Havering. The role will begin January 2026, with induction and handover sessions scheduled in the weeks leading into January 2026 so the Year 5 Teacher can start the spring term ready to lead learning.

The Year 5 Teacher will use assessment to set precise next steps, design engaging topic work and run booster groups where needed. This Year 5 Teacher post offers continual CPD, supportive leadership and opportunities to contribute to enrichment across the school and the wider Havering community.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver well-sequenced Year 5 lessons that build depth of knowledge and fluency.


• Identify learning priorities from assessment and deliver timely, high-impact small-group support.


• Collaborate with colleagues to moderate outcomes and refine cross-curricular links.


• Maintain clear communication with families and contribute to reporting cycles.


• Lead enrichment activities and contribute to whole-school improvement priorities in Havering.

Person specification

• Qualified teacher with successful classroom experience in KS2 and strong Year 5 practice.


• Secure subject knowledge in English and mathematics and proven ability to design effective sequences.


• Strong classroom routines, excellent communication and organisational skills.


• A team player who will engage positively with the school community across Havering.


• Available to commence January 2026 and to attend induction sessions before January 2026.
