Young Person’s Practitioner 
Salary: £26,006.84 per annum 
Location: North Wales – Flintshire, Conwy, Denbighshire and Gwynedd. 
Contract/Hours: Temporary contract until March 2027 / Full Time – 37 hours per week

A bit about the role

We’re excited to be recruiting a Young Person Practitioner to support the delivery of our StepED programme across North Wales.

This school-based role involves working directly with small groups of young people who have been identified by schools as being disengaged from education, attending on reduced timetables, or requiring additional support to remain engaged in learning.

As a Young Person’s Practitioner, you’ll deliver interventions from an approved programme designed to build confidence, resilience, and motivation, helping young people to reconnect with education and realise their potential.

Working closely with schools and other key stakeholders, you’ll provide supportive, person-centred interventions that encourage positive outcomes and improve educational engagement for some of the region's most vulnerable young people.

About the Service

Action for Children has recently been awarded funding through the Serious Violence Duty to deliver our school-based education intervention programme, StepED, across North Wales.

The service provides targeted support to young people aged 10 to 18 who may be at risk of disengaging from education, vulnerable to criminal exploitation, or experiencing negative influences within their school or wider community. Through early intervention and tailored support, we help young people build confidence, resilience, and stronger connections with education.

We work in close partnership with Local Authorities, North Wales Police, schools, and other education partners to identify and support young people at the earliest opportunity, reducing both the risk and impact of criminal exploitation.

At the heart of our approach is a belief in every young person's potential. We are committed to helping young people feel safe, valued, and empowered to make positive choices, supporting them to achieve better outcomes both in education and in life.

As part of the StepED programme, practitioners deliver structured interventions to small groups of young people within school settings, helping them re-engage with learning, improve attendance, develop positive relationships, and build the skills needed to thrive. 

What you do could make a difference

As a Young Person's Practitioner, you’ll;

• Work closely with Local Authorities, Youth Justice Services, North Wales Police, schools, and other partners to support vulnerable young people.

• Deliver group sessions for young people who are at risk of disengaging from education or who need extra support to stay engaged and improve their outcomes.

• Support young people to navigate challenges around relationships, emotional wellbeing, peer pressure, exploitation, substance use, and other issues affecting their lives.

• Provide practical coping strategies and tools to help young people manage complex or difficult situations.

• Offer mentoring and hands‑on support to build life skills, strengthen resilience, improve employability, and encourage positive decision‑making.

• Build trusting, positive relationships that empower young people to recognise their strengths, make informed choices, and reach their potential.

• Create a safe, supportive environment where young people feel valued, listened to, and motivated to engage with education and their community.

Let’s talk about you

• Experience supporting young people in education settings such as schools, alternative provision, or youth-focused services.
• Experience working with groups of young people, including those who have offended or may be at risk.
• Understanding of the criminal justice system, youth justice services, and the factors that can influence offending behaviour.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to connect with young people and ensure their voices are heard and valued.
• Experience working closely with schools, social care, police, and other partners to achieve positive outcomes.
• Awareness of the challenges faced by vulnerable young people, including exploitation, peer pressure, emotional wellbeing, and disengagement from education.
• Ability to motivate, inspire, and empower young people to make positive choices and reach their potential.
• Lived experience that positively informs and strengthens your practice.
• A full UK driving licence. and access to a vehicle, as travel across North Wales will be required.
