The Youth Pastor (South) will lead, disciple and nurture the spirituality of young people (11-18) who attend GS South, helping them to grow in their faith of Jesus Christ and integrating them into the life of the wider church. They will also ensure that all youth ministry activities are carried out in a safe and welcoming environment that prioritises the safeguarding and wellbeing of all young people. They will be responsible for planning and delivering the weekly programme at GS South, while also building on our strong team of brilliant volunteers; supporting, encouraging, developing leaders and a growing team. They will prepare the content of the weekly programme ensuring cohesion with the wider vision and values of Gas Street Church.
Key areas of responsibility:
Ensure pastoral care of young people aged 11-18 at GS South
To reach and engage young people in the community, establishing relationships with them and creating a space for them to connect regularly mid-week
Plan and lead our Sunday and mid-week youth programmes, including games, bible-based content, short talks, small-group discussions, worship, and other creative activities. The aim is to inspire faith, nurture discipleship, and build community among young people in ways that are fun, accessible, and meaningful
Organise and lead social events that will create environments for young people to invite friends, have fun, build relationships and make memories
Recruit, train, equip and lead the team of volunteers; empowering them to use their strengths and gifts to outwork the vision for Gas Street Youth.
Champion young people within the church by creating meaningful opportunities for them to contribute and lead, such as serving in worship, helping with ministry teams, and volunteering in our gatherings. Ensure their voices are heard and their ideas valued, helping them grow in confidence as they take on age-appropriate responsibilities
Connect with and involve young people from the local community in church life
Alongside the Location Pastor & Kids Pastor (GS Longbridge), help foster a culture of intergenerational worship and connection
To assist in the leading of an annual weekend away for all young people connected to Gas Street Church
Leading regular Youth team nights, by sharing clear vision, championing our volunteers, and creating a space where they feel appreciated, encouraged, and well supported
Communicate effectively and regularly with parents and carers
Contribute to Worship for Everyone gatherings, our church-wide gatherings that intentionally bring all ages together through accessible worship, creative expression, and interactive teaching that helps young people and adults engage together
Alongside the Location Pastor (South) and Kids Pastor (South), help foster a culture of intergenerational worship and connection by creatively shaping spaces where young people and adults can worship, serve, and grow together through shared activities, gatherings, and moments that encourage connection across the church and mutual encouragement between ages
Undertake administrative tasks including maintaining appropriate records and volunteer rotas, undertaking risk assessments and ensuring health and safety, and safeguarding compliance
To ensure that Gas Street’s Safeguarding policy is implemented in liaison with the Head of Safeguarding
Work in cohesion with the wider Gas Street Youth Ministry team to support and encourage where needed
Additional ad-hoc projects & support as agreed with the line manager & Exec Team.
Person Specification
A deep passion and desire to work with young people and to see them grow spiritually in the love and worship of Jesus and in their love for one another and their community
Ability to engage and inspire young people, build trust and gain respect
Experience in planning, delivery and supporting youth programmes, events or ministries in a church environment (desirable)
Excellent pastoral skills
Able to demonstrate the exercising of spiritual gifts
Exceptional leadership and management skills
Strong interpersonal and organisational skills
Proactive and self-motivated
Excellent administrative skills
Be flexible and innovative
Ability to juggle a broad range of responsibilities
An open heart and a ‘can-do’ attitude

There is a genuine occupational requirement that the post-holder be a Christian
This role will require an enhanced DBS check

Working requirements:
Part-time, permanent role (18.75 hours per week)
25 days annual leave (pro-rata)
+ statutory bank holidays (pro-rata)
+ up to three additional days at Christmas for office closure
+ three retreat days across the year( pro-rata)
Attend Gas Street Church
Attend weekly staff meeting
Evening and weekend flexibility as required (with a generous TOIL policy)
