Job Description - Credit Controller

Due to an internal promotion here at Foot Anstey we are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Credit Controller to join our growing Accounts team. You'll be based in our Plymouth, or Bristol office, and work alongside a friendly and collaborative team which is based in both locations. This is a varied role reporting into our Billing and Credit Manager where you will use your tact, professionalism, and experience to ensure we operate a proactive and efficient billing and credit control process throughout the business. 

What you'll do

The role is to ensure bills are rendered to clients accurately, and cash is collected professionally and promptly.  Such processes will include: 

  • Supporting the billing process for all clients
  • Chasing overdue invoices by telephone, email & letter within agreed timescales
  • Working towards successfully meeting cash targets set by the Firm
  • Meeting regularly with lawyers to ensure relevant debts are managed as necessary
  • Adopting and implementing the collections policy
  • Regularly updating the Billing and Credit Manager on significant payment pledges
  • Maintaining accurate records of all credit control activity
  • Ensuring that all transactions are compliant with SARs and HMRC regulations
  • Providing accurate advice on billing and credit control queries
  • Providing ad-hoc reporting as and when requested

What we're looking for

  • Good credit control experience in a professional services or legal environment
  • Confident with accounts procedures, client ledgers, disbursements, and office accounts
  • Possesses good/confident Excel and Word skills
  • Experience (and confidence) dealing with stakeholders and clients at all levels 
  • The ability to manage & prioritise a busy caseload
  • The ability to consistently produce work which is accurate and of high quality
  • A proactive and organised approach to their own work and can prioritise and work effectively to tight deadlines
  • Willingness to learn and develop on an ongoing basis and to make suggestions for better use of technology and systems to assist with continual improvement of working processes and team performance
  • Excellent all round communication skills with ability to show practical support to lawyers and empathy to clients whilst also focusing on prompt cash collection
  • Good knowledge of accounting and bank procedures
  • (Experience of legal practice management systems/non-essential)
  • (AAT or ICM qualifications/non-essential)
  • A great team work ethic with the desire to work alongside a supportive team
