Retail Area Manager
37 hours per week, Permanent
£23,642 – £25,745 per annum

About the role
We are looking for two retail area managers to help us grow and develop the fantastic shops and volunteers who raise vital funds to support the amazing work of Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

The successful candidate will be passionate about retail and supporting our volunteers in the sale of our generously donated goods.

Person Specification

Essential
• Ability to prioritise tasks and manage own time and workload effectively.
• Experience working in the retail sector
• An understanding of retail principles and shop management, including stock control.
• Good numeracy and literacy skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage a wide range of audiences.
• Ability to manage and resolve conflict.
• Ability to work independently and unsupervised using own initiative.
• IT literate.
• Working in a team and independently.
• Ability to manage time, plan workload effectively, be self-motivated and meet deadlines.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Full UK driving license with vehicle insured for business use.
• Motivated and enthusiastic.
• Positive approach to individual’s needs and willing to help and support others.
• Prepared to undertake any further training and development that may become necessary for the role.
• Commitment to and alignment with the hospice values and mission.
• Approachable and adaptable with a flexible approach to work which may include weekends as the role demands.
• Flexibility to work as the business requires, including some weekends.
Desirable
• Understanding of the hospice and charity sector.
• Experience of merchandising
• Health and safety compliance in retail setting.
• Experience of working with and managing volunteers.
• Experience of monitoring sales and stock.
• Knowledge of Gift aid.

About us
Wigan and Leigh Hospice is a charity providing care and support to people who have been diagnosed with a life limiting or terminal illness. Every year we support more than 1200 people through our in-patient unit and in their own homes, providing tailored support to meet their individual needs.

The services the hospice offers were deemed Outstanding at the last CQC inspection and this is reflected in the love and support we receive from our donors, supporters and volunteers.

But our vital service only receives funding for one third of our operating costs, with the rest of the income having to be fundraised or generated through our shops.

This is why good marketing and communication is essential, helping us to engage with lots of different people – patients and their loved ones, supporters, donors and customers. Not to mention our staff and volunteers.

The available role
We have two full time roles available working 37 hour per week, 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday (Friday 4pm finish). The salary banding is £23,642 – £25,745 per annum.
