Role Overview:

The primary purpose of this role is to manage, control and plan transportation movements between UK plants, distribution centres, co-packers and customers against demanding service, cost, capacity and quality standards. Managing and maintaining strong and effective relationships with third party transport providers is a key element of the role. 

The role includes managing and leading the distribution administration team who are responsible for network transport planning, capacity management, pallet control and distribution invoice management. Identifying process simplification and productivity opportunities of all aspects of the movements of goods from plants and through the network is a further important element in the role. The incumbent will report and cover for the UK Network Manager and will be involved in wider UK network operational planning tasks such as seasonal peak management. 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Manage relationships with suppliers of transport and related services, including national/3PL, International inbound, Ireland direct to customer from UK, DRP movements, customer backhaul and pallet/equipment pool providers, ensuring conformance to agreed service levels through collaborative working and regular periodic reviews of performance against key indicators 
  • Coordination of Network capacity review via daily dialogue with all stakeholders (warehouses, hauliers, DRP, Customer Collaboration, Manufacturing and Copack). 
  • Lead a team responsible for delivery of Logistics support functions including Freight Billing, invoice payment, distressed/invaded load management, inventory control and pallet supply management. 
  • Support the annual cost cycle through budget planning and monthly performance review. 
  • Support delivery of defined Productivity projects and targets. 
  • Work collaboratively with supply chain colleagues to optimises the efficient use of the transport services procured whilst meeting all the required standards of performance. 
  • Communicate effectively and influentially with all contacts at various levels of seniority, both within the business and externally. 
  • Promote both team and individual development and support succession planning, in line with corporate HR strategy and the established performance management process. 
  • Champion QEHS/BCP agenda with all suppliers, in ensuring the statutory and corporate standards and targets are achieved via the establishment of a continuous improvement culture that’s supports the sustainability agenda. 
  • Demonstrate a progressive and persuasive leadership style. 
  • Know the ethical and legal compliance responsibilities of the position, lead ethically and model compliant behaviour, maintain an environment where employees can speak up without fear of retaliation; ensure employees in are of responsibility understand the compliance responsibilities of their jobs and actively participate in the compliance programme and supporting audits. 

Experience/Qualifications

  • Previous experience with front line operations e.g. Logistics Operations, Customer Collaboration, Planning, Warehousing and Transport functions within an FMCG management environment. 
  • Ability to lead and motivate individuals, both internal and 3PL Party Logistics Service providers, to meet customers expectations and achieve business targets. 
  • An effective communicator who can influence cross functionally and with third party representatives, to achieve targets and optimise operational efficiency. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively to analyse problems and propose compelling solutions. 
  • Energy and tenacity to achieve targets and inspire others to do the same. 
  • Supports team attainment and personal development through listening, coaching and counselling. 
  • Confidence to lead and make decisions despite ambiguity and uncertainty. 
  • Fluent in English. 
  • Preferred 
  • Knowledge of the transport market, systems and processes. 
  • Experience of managing third parties to enable the achievement of MDLZ business objectives
