Job Description - Head of Data

ROLE OVERVIEW

Join GRIDSERVE as the Head of Data. This will be a critical member of our leadership team, responsible for establishing and driving the data vision and strategy across the company. This role involves harnessing the power of data to optimize our operations, enhance decision-making, and unlock innovative solutions in the renewable energy space.

You will lead our journey towards becoming a data-mature organisation, building a team to leverage data for operational excellence, strategic insights, and market innovations.You will be able to communicate complex data concepts in simple business language, cutting out the jargon and getting to the point of what really matters for the decision makers. The ideal candidate will be a pragmatic seasoned leader with expertise in data governance, architecture, analytics, and a passion for sustainability and renewable energy.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Data Strategy Development : Develop and execute a comprehensive data strategy aligned with the company's overall goals and objectives. Identify opportunities to leverage data assets to enhance EV charging infrastructure, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
  • Be a Leader : Manage, grow and shape the data team, nurturing capabilities and fostering data maturity within the organization. The recent change and instability within the team has brought uncertainty to some, you will inspire and reinvigorate team members ensuring they understand how critical they are to GRIDSERVE’s success.
  • Align to the Business : Ensure everything we do within the data tribe is aligned to the business strategy and OKRs, and ensure the data tribe supports its peer tribes within Digital, Products and Services providing them the services they need to be successful
  • Roadmap Planning : Define and prioritize the data initiatives and projects required to achieve strategic objectives. Create a roadmap that outlines key milestones, timelines, and resource requirements for the implementation of data-driven solutions.
  • Platform Ownership : Take ownership of the data platform, including data architecture, data pipelines, data warehousing, and analytics tools. Ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of the data platform to support business operations and decision-making.
  • Governance and Compliance : Establish data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure the quality, integrity, and confidentiality of data assets. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, such as GDPR and data protection laws.
  • Data Analytics and Insights : Lead the development of advanced analytics capabilities to derive actionable insights from data. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify business opportunities, optimise processes, and improve customer engagement through data-driven decision-making.
  • Leadership and Development : Build and lead a high-performing data team, including data engineers, analysts, and scientists. Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to nurture talent and foster a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration : Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including product management, engineering, marketing, and operations, to understand their data needs and requirements. Partner with external stakeholders, such as vendors, partners, and regulatory bodies, to drive data-related initiatives and partnerships.
  • Continuous Improvement : Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data management, analytics, and machine learning. Continuously evaluate and optimize data processes, tools, and methodologies to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Required skills and experience

Proven Track Record : Demonstrated experience in a leadership role overseeing data teams, strategy, platform development, and analytics in a comparative sector such as energy, utilities, or automotive industry.

C-Suite or Board Presentation and Engagement: Experience reporting into senior executives within a business and being accountable to them, translating between business and technology with some gravitas and ability to build rapport

Team Building and Development : Track record of building and leading high-performing data teams, recruiting and retaining top talent, and fostering a culture of learning, growth, and innovation.

Career in Data : You will have ‘walked the walk’ in previous data roles in either Data Science, Engineering, BI/Analytics or other disciplines related to data. You will have an empathy and understanding of all of the roles comprising a data team and have some demonstrable expertise in the data domain

Cloud Expertise : Experience in leveraging cloud-native solutions, particularly Azure, to architect and deploy data solutions, including data ingestion, storage, processing, and analytics.

Data Governance and Compliance: Experience in establishing and enforcing data governance policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations and industry standards.

Required qualifications and certifications

Microsoft Azure or other technical Certifications in Data or a relevant technology area

AgilePM, Managing Successful Programmes or PRINCE2 certifications
