Role Title - Disability Support Assistant

Role Purpose - To support our short breaks and youth groups

How Often/How Long - Short breaks are 5 hour activity days delivered in the school holidays. Youth groups are weekly on Mondays (Redruth), Tuesdays (St Blazey), Wednesdays (Liskeard) in term time only.

Minimum Age – 18

Disclosure Checks - Yes

Is driving essential for the role? - Yes
 

What we need you to do

Our Disability Support volunteers work as part of a team to engage the children and young people with the activities we offer. They help us to set up, facilitate and pack up activities, clean and tidy, play and chat with the children, get involved and have fun. They can contribute to the planning of activities, and aid the team to make sure everyone is included and the environment is safe, all with the goal of creating an amazing experience for the child.

Your role may include but is not limited to;

  • Attend discussion of children attending sessions to understand any needs you may need to be aware of.
  • Throughout the duration of the session take part in various activities (e.g. read a story with a child, make playdough etc)
  • Assess and identify any situations regarding service users welfare and wellbeing which may need to be reported and escalated to a supervisor)
  • Attend any other meetings as deemed necessary by your volunteer manager.

 

What Skills and experience do you need?

  • Understanding of confidentiality and the steps to take to escalate any concerns.
  • Calm reaction to unpredictable situations
  • Good communication skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Work well in a team

What we ask of you:

  • To provide two references from non-family members and other relevant documents related to the role.
  • To keep to all the charity’s policies and guidelines.
  • To complete an induction and any training relating to the role.
