Contract: Starting July 2027, 13-month Fixed Term Contract

Hours/Shift Pattern: 8am- 4pm, Monday to Friday

Müller is looking for a talented Automation - Operational Technology (OT) Engineer to join our dynamic team and help shape the future of automation across our operations.

Working within the Automation department to design, create and maintain systems, processes, and procedures that maintain and enhance the safety, reliability, controllability, and security of industrial systems. 

Key tasks & responsibilities include:

• Enforce OT cybersecurity practices, frameworks, and regulations.


• Assisting in asset inventory preparation and management for industrial control systems (ICS), key features being resilience and obsolescence.


• Contributing to network diagram creation and implementation to improve system visibility, security and availability


• Maintain and support the implementation of OT hardware, software, and connectivity to supporting infrastructure services within the OT environment.


• Perform technical, operational support for OT systems


• Provide guidance on OT system design ensuring user requirements are understood and catered for.


• Support the management and delivery of OT projects.


• Monitor, operate and enhance complex OT infrastructure platforms and OT equipment.


• Strive to provide the best workable solution using software and systems available in alignment with the sites digital strategy and in line with security requirements.


• Ensure the OT roadmap is in place, and plans are put in to replace legacy software ware and hardware. The map is constantly being updated with changes to technology and approaches to security.


• Participate in cyber incident response, governance reporting, penetration testing, control of the Risk Register and awareness training to uphold safety and compliance standards.


• Collaborate with Automation engineers to implement secure configurations and maintain system availability within the realms of security and vulnerability.

Your Muller responsibilities:

• Understand the concept of Lowest Total Cost of Ownership and design and deliver systems accordingly


• Understand unique challenges of FMCG and design and deliver systems accordingly


• Play an active part in continuously improving our systems and business


• Understand the impact of own actions and others on achieving site/business OGSM


• Support improvement activities / events within engineering owned areas


• Ensure own activities are aligned to overall business objectives and know how current performance impacts the bottom line


• Collaboratively work with engineering colleagues and other teams to improve our business and deliver the OGSM


• Ability to deliver on the job training to colleagues


• Health and safety of self and others

What we're looking for:

This placement is ideal for students passionate about sustainability and looking to develop their analytical and data-handling skills. We’re seeking university students who are on track to achieve a 2:1 and above and are looking for a placement year role.  

• Proven experience in OT Engineering, ideally within Dairy, FMCG or manufacturing.

• Strong understanding of OT architecture, and project lifecycle management.


• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.


• Ability to coach and mentor others, with a collaborative and proactive mindset.

Familiarity with:

• Networks, protocols, security and server virtualisation.


• Threats, vulnerabilities, impacts and mitigations in ICS systems and the enterprise environment.


• Cyber incident response, management, escalation, investigation & 3rd party involvement.


• Computer architecture, digital logic, machine level representation of data


• Management of cyber security risk, tools and techniques.


• Familiarity with regulations, such as IEC 62443, NIS2 and Cyber Security Resilience Bill.
