Job Description - IT Solutions Apprenticeship

IT Solutions Technician Apprenticeship at West SILC



We are looking for a Level 3 IT Technician who is keen to make a difference You’re someone who understands that when technology works well, it can transform the learning experience, especially for pupils with additional needs. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring that our digital systems are reliable, secure, and aligned with the needs of our staff and learners. You’ll be a valued part of a friendly, professional team that supports every aspect of school life, helping our young people achieve their full potential.


Our IT team supports our staff and pupils to use IT equipment effectively, providing trouble shooting support and ensuring our technology contributes to effective teaching and learning and the provision of high-quality education for all pupils.




Apprenticeship Overview:



  • Salary: £7.55 an hour, Automatic pay increase after one year on programme for 19+ year olds

  • Working Week: Monday to Thursday – 8am – 4pm Friday 8am – 3.30pm (30 minutes lunch break)

  • Hours:37 hours per week

  • Duration: 18 months

  • Location: 4 Town Street, Stanningley Pudsey, West Yorkshire, LS28 6HL

  • Level 3 IT Solutions Technician apprenticeship

  • Online training supported by our dedicated tutor


 


 What You’ll Do




  • Provide day‑to‑day IT support for staff and students, managing support tickets and resolving technical issues.

  • Maintain and develop all school IT systems, equipment, network infrastructure, servers, and software with the Senior IT Technician.

  • Ensure IT resources are safe, secure, documented, and ready for daily use, including managing the asset register, equipment bookings, stock, and consumables.

  • Install and maintain hardware, software, applications, and network components.

  • Support multimedia needs for school events, lessons, and productions (audio, video, lighting).

  • Ensure safe installation of equipment and follow health & safety procedures.

  • Contribute to ongoing IT projects, website updates, e‑resources, and general support for the wider technical/administration team.



Skills & Qualities



  • Strong communication, organisation, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks, and adapt to new systems.

  • High accuracy, attention to detail, and confidence working with data.

  • Team player with good customer‑service skills and flexibility to support school needs.



Experience



  • IT helpdesk support, troubleshooting, installations, and repairs.

  • Supporting networks, servers, wireless systems, and internet access.

  • Creating/managing digital resources and using assistive technologies.

  • Experience in a school environment desirable.



Knowledge



  • Understanding of network infrastructure, cabling, virtual server environments, and managed wireless networks.

  • Awareness of safeguarding, equal opportunities, and school data security requirements.

  • Ability to evaluate procedures, use initiative, and develop effective IT systems.



Qualifications & Additional Requirements




  • GCSE English and Maths (A*–C / 9–4) desirable

  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle (desirable).

  • Relevant IT qualifications and commitment to ongoing professional development.


 


Training and Development


As an apprentice, you will receive support through both on the job learning and formal training as part of your apprenticeship programme. This will typically include:




  • Study towards a relevant qualification, Level 3 IT Solutions Technician Diploma.

  • On the job training and mentoring from experienced professionals.

  • Regular review meetings to track progress and development.


 


What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end? The successful candidate will obtain a Level 3 IT Solutions Technician Apprenticeship standard qualification.


 


What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship? Potential full-time employment for the right candidate upon successful completion of the apprenticeship


 


Pre-employment checks. Please be aware that upon a successful offer of employment the company completes digitalised right-to-work checks and DBS applications via an external provider - 'Matrix Screening'.
