POSTING END DATE: 04/03/2026

START DATE: 7th September 2026

PROGRAMME DURATION: 4 years.

LOCATION: Gaydon, Whitley

Hybrid working is potentially available, depending on the area and manager. JLR is a multi-site business, and you’ll be required to spend time working with different departments at several locations.

ACHIEVE THE EXCEPTIONAL

You’ve picked the perfect time to take the first step on an extraordinary career path with JLR’s apprenticeship programme and be at the forefront of tomorrow’s technology. Experience first-hand how innovation shapes the future of mobility. Arrive as you are. Achieve the exceptional.

Your journey begins here.

Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship

Our Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeships are aimed at people who have a passion for learning and innovation.

Increasingly automated. Ever more sophisticated. This is the future our vision holds for our vehicles. As a Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprentice, you will implement technology solutions aligned to your pathway, to develop new products and services and increase productivity using digital technologies. JLR is a world leader in engineering – we make incredible luxury vehicles. Our aspirations are no different for Digital and Technology. Our people, our teams and our culture are at the heart of everything we do. We are natives of the Agile and “DevOps” world and are here to solve complex technical challenges.

The Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions Degree apprenticeship programme takes four years to complete and adheres to Skills England Digital and Technology Solutions Professional standard. For more details, please visit the Skills England apprenticeship standard webpage: Digital and technology solutions professional / Skills England

As an apprentice, you will develop the Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (KSBs) outlined in the apprenticeship standard. These will be assessed during your End Point Assessment (EPA), where you will demonstrate the competencies and skills you’ve gained throughout the programme.

Software Engineering pathway

Software is a key component of our future cars as the technology in vehicles continues to increase to meet customers’ evolving needs. Before the customer enters the car, technology identifies the key fob and their phone to recognise them and allow access. During their journey, software aids their driving with stability and assistance systems and provides a welcoming and refined user experience through in-vehicle infotainment. In short, software gives us our edge. It makes our thinking come alive in the real world. This pathway will show you how to design, build and test ground-breaking software that really delivers. You’ll also learn how to integrate engineering principles that deliver superior analysis, development and built-in security.

Along the way, you could work in any of the following functional areas: Digital Platform (DP) or Vehicle Platform (VP). You will be asked to indicate your preference during the application process.

Hybrid working is potentially available, depending on the area and manager. JLR is a multi-site business, and you’ll be required to spend time working with different departments at several locations.

WHAT TO EXPECT

During your apprenticeship, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience and career-building skills while working at the forefront of the automotive industry. This exciting programme is designed to help you build practical skills, deepen your foundational knowledge, and develop essential business behaviours such as teamwork and problem-solving. And you’ll be supported by a JLR early careers cohort leader, the university team, and your line manager every step of the way.

You’ll achieve a BSc (Hons) degree in Digital and Technology Solutions developed in conjunction with the University of Warwick. For more details on the degree course, please visit: Digital Technology Solutions

Year 1 – 2

This programme is delivered through a combination of online study, face-to-face lectures, independent learning each week. This gives you the chance to apply your learning from University of Warwick to projects in a real-world environment. You’ll study a range of modules designed to build your essential knowledge, skills and behaviours, with regular process reviews along to way to ensure you’re getting the support you need from your tutors and line manager.

Years 3-4

In years 3 and 4 you will complete modules related to your chosen specialism – Software Engineering. In your final year, you’ll complete a work-based project as part of your End Point Assessment (EPA). This is an opportunity for you to use the skills and experience you gained throughout your time on the programme and apply them directly to your role. And when you’ve successfully completed your EPA, you’ll achieve your Level 6 Apprenticeship and taking on new responsibilities and making a meaningful impact within the business.

Throughout your apprenticeship you could work in any of the following functional areas: Digital Platform (DP) or Vehicle Platform (VP). You will be asked to indicate your preference during the application process.

Digital Platform (DP) - Gaydon

DPP delivers smart, connected, clean vehicles through creativity and design innovation and offers opportunities in a variety of digital disciplines including complex systems design and electronic hardware and software creation. The features you may expect, such as cabin interior functions or infotainment but also technologies such as connectivity, off-board processing and mobile app design to provide a wider range of customer experience.

The projects worked on will cover a wide scope, as most vehicle functions have a software element including propulsion and energy management systems as well as active suspension control, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), infotainment and convenience features such as interior cabin controls.

You could be involved in many different projects from day one, including automation and infrastructure. You could be part of a team implementing a cloud-based infrastructure providing the tools and environment for large software teams to work within.

Or you could be working in low-level software development ensuring the in-vehicle computer systems have the best balance of performance. Low-Level boot charts, balancing processor core loading and refining fast boot processes are areas you will focus on to produce the best in-vehicle performance.

VEHICLE PLATFORM TEAM - Gaydon, Whitley, NAIC, Solihull

The Vehicle Platform team is where engineering meets innovation - delivering world class automotive experiences. We engineer and deliver the core systems that define the customer experience - everything from Body Interiors, Body Exteriors, Body in White, Chassis, EDU, Powertrains and Accessories. We are a large, highly skilled team with a focus on integrating cutting-edge technology and engineering excellence to create vehicles that set new standards in performance, comfort and safety.

We’re responsible for designing and developing software that runs both inside and outside the vehicle, supporting all the innovative and high-tech features a customer expects from a JLR product. We do this with model-based software development and directly writing code. This is complemented by developers working in Embedded-C and engineers who use a variety of languages, including Python, to build and maintain our DevOps software pipelines. Our role goes beyond writing code—we design how software systems work together and ensure quality through software testing, calibration, and validation. This spans from virtual rigs to in-vehicle and real-world test environments.

As a Software Apprentice within this team, you’ll learn about and be responsible for developing real-world engineering solutions, securing JLRs future as a leading provider of premium and sustainable electrified vehicles. You’ll learn how to use tools, engineering methodologies and techniques to create and optimise impressive engineering solutions – working on new products and enhancing our current ones. This role will raise your profile across the business as you collaborate with different stakeholders, accelerating your development as an engineer and preparing you for the engineering landscape of tomorrow.

WHAT’S REQUIRED?

To apply you’ll need to have achieved GCSE Maths and English Language at level 5 (C) or higher above. You’ll also need three additional GCSEs at level 5 (C) or higher, to include one STEM (science, technology, engineering or maths) subject.

In addition, you will need to have achieved or be on track to achieve A-level Maths at grade C or higher and an additional A-level in Physics, Chemistry, Design & Technology, ICT, Computer Science, Economics or Engineering at grade C or higher.

If you do not hold or are not studying for the qualifications above but believe you have equivalent awards or skills, please contact us at [email protected] for a discussion before submitting your application.

Our 2026 apprenticeship programme salary is £26,092. You’ll also enjoy a generous holiday allowance, a discounted car purchase and lease scheme for you and your family, an excellent pension scheme and access to a wide range of deals and discounts from retailers and sports clubs.
