Job Description - Policy Officer Intern

Description

Do you enjoy writing and editing clear and engaging information? If you can critically review information and think about wider implications, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

As a Policy Officer Intern, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring that Adult Social Care & Health (ASCH) staff have access to clear, up to date and meaningful information on policy and plans that support their day-to-day roles. You will play an important role in undertaking research of national policy and legislative changes, analysing implications and coordinating feedback with operational teams. You will work closely with the Policy Unit, the wider Policy and Strategic Development Team, and teams from across the ASCH department to develop and coordinate plans and policy documents that underpin organisational and departmental priorities and legally compliant services.

Much like adult social care itself, the role is broad, fast paced and helps ASCH meet its statutory duties and make a meaningful difference to practitioners and the people they support.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Clear, confident and concise written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyse information, think critically and consider wider implications across the department
  • Ability to use technology such as Microsoft 365 (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word)

Please note this is a 6-month fixed term opportunity. If you are interested in this role as a secondment, please ensure you have the agreement of your line manager before applying.

Interviews will take place in person at County Hall, Lewes BN7 1UE on the week commencing 31 August 2026. If you are unavailable at this time, please let us know and we may be able to schedule an alternative date to interview.
