Reward and Recognition Assistant, Springer Nature Opening Doors Programme 

Are you looking for an internship that provides hands-on experience in External Editor Engagement and the chance to make connections at one of the largest publishers of education and research content?  

The Springer Nature Opening Doors internship, is a paid opportunity in London, UK, for students and recent graduates to gain experience in research, education and science news publishing in our journals, books or magazines.  

Many perspectives and lived experiences remain underrepresented in the publishing industry. This underrepresentation has historically affected a wide range of groups, including Black people, Indigenous people, and people of colour, first‑generation university students, people from socio‑economically disadvantaged backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, people from underrepresented social castes, religious minorities and people with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions 

We are looking for talented candidates from all backgrounds, with excellent skills in a range of fields, and we are committed to creating an inclusive internship, with a cohort that reflects a broad range of voices and experiences. 

The successful applicant will spend up to 6 months as Reward and Recognition Assistant within the Editorial Engagement Team, part of the Publishing Performance and Intelligence division of Springer Nature. If selected for this internship, you will be supporting the team by: 

 

  • Project management support: Driving and delivering activities related to key engagement initiatives and supporting the day-to-day management of projects:  

  • Managing a discrete project within the reward programme, developing project management skills with support and oversight from the Senior Manager, Editor Reward  

  • Assisting our initiatives by carrying out research activities, monitoring their progress and measuring success  

  • Providing project management and administrative support for ongoing projects  

  • Facilitating the coordination of monthly reporting for initiatives across the Editor Engagement team  

  • Reward and recognition initiatives: Supporting the delivery of key engagement activities:  

  • Contributing to the creation and delivery of communications that support our reward initiatives, including drafting content, supporting virtual events and assisting with related outreach activities   

  • Supporting pilot initiatives within our online editor communities that help strengthen engagement and amplify the impact of our reward programmes  

  • Supporting our reward programme by providing data analysis, project management support, and reporting to ensure our editors and Reviewing Editors receive recognition for their contribution in an efficient and engaging way   

  • Customer support: Providing a positive experience for our external Editors, EBMs and Reviewers, and building relationships with these key stakeholders. Responsibilities include:  

  • Providing logistical support for the development of Springer Nature external editor focus groups, and serve as a liaison with these groups, including virtual meetings  

  • Serving as a point of contact for the Editor Engagement Team, monitoring the team inbox and triaging request to the appropriate team member 

  • Providing team cover during periods of absence

About you:  

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme, or a recent graduate  

  • Available to start in June 2026 for an internship of up to six months 

  • Strong interest in research publishing 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Editor Reward, the Reward and Recognition Assistant (Intern) will support Springer Nature’s Editor Engagement team by providing operational and administrative support for our external editor reward programme. 

The Editor Engagement Team works to inform, engage and earn the loyalty of Springer Nature’s community of over 100,000 Editors and Editorial Board Members. Motivating them to contribute to the development and running of the journals they serve.  

This internship will focus specifically on ensuring our Editors, Editorial Board Members and Reviewing Editors are recognised and celebrated for the vital role they play. As Reward and Recognition Assistant you will help facilitate our reward programme, providing day-to-day operational support and managing a discrete project within the programme under the guidance of the Senior Manager, Editor Reward.
