Background
This role will require the post-holder to begin their role, including training, from week commencing 14th September 2026. As part of your application, please outline your availability between Monday 14th and Thursday 17th September.
You will be employed at a Grade 3 with work periods during term-time. We are therefore looking for candidates who are interested in committing to a year-long position with us.

Role Summary
What you'll do:
Represent CN: Act as an ambassador and source of insight for the service, demonstrating the professionalism, expertise and friendliness of Careers Network.
Engage and signpost: Communicate with fellow students about Careers Network and how the service can support them to reach their goals now and into the future.
Support events: Play a part in the delivery of fun and meaningful events on campus.

Main Duties
Act as an ambassador and source of student insight for Careers Network.
Develop knowledge of the support, resources and opportunities offered by Careers Network to appropriately guide students at all levels and boost their career-readiness.
Understand our students’ key employability questions, skills, needs and challenges.
Assist with providing relevant and timely information to students, staff and external providers, answering queries promptly and handling any issues from initial contact to resolution. This will include recognising when queries need to be referred elsewhere.
Assist with web editing of Careers Network’s content, contributing to the wider digital student engagement work.
Review and quality check our digital content (including Careers Connect, digital platforms and our webpages), sharing feedback at monthly team meetings.
At times, support Student Engagement Assistants at Careers Corner (our dedicated information hub in Main Library) with student queries and demos of digital resources.
Support and represent Careers Network at flagship events, including Welcome Week, Careers Fairs, Open Days, UoB Xtra (June), and ad hoc outreach throughout 26/27.
Person Specification
A current student at the University of Birmingham (any level of study or degree discipline) through the academic year 2026/27.
Demonstrable interest in and understanding of issues around careers and employability, and / or your personal and professional development.
Excellent written and oral communication, with the ability to adapt to different groups.
Proficient IT skills with the ability to learn new systems and knowledge of MS 365, particularly database management systems and Excel.
Excellent time management, organisation and decision-making skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, with ability and enthusiasm to engage other students.
A positive, teamwork, enthusiastic, flexible and problem-solving approach to working.
Commitment to the working hours and contract duration.
