Location: Newport, Cwmbran South Wales
Pay: £93–£110 per day, depending on the role
Hours: Flexible opportunities from one to five days per week
Start date: September 2026
Settings: Secondary and SEN/ALN schools

Teaching Personnel is recruiting enthusiastic and reliable individuals for flexible roles in secondary and SEN/ALN schools across Newport and Cwmbran areas.

No teaching qualification is required. Whether you are currently studying, have recently graduated or are considering a career in teaching, psychology, youth work or education, this is a great opportunity to gain valuable school-based experience.

You can choose the days you are available to work, with opportunities ranging from one or two days per week to full-time placements.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have supported children or young people through:

Sports coaching
Youth work
Childcare or babysitting
School or university placements
Tutoring
Summer camps or activity clubs
Care or support work
Volunteering

Opportunities available

Depending on your experience, availability and interests, roles may include:

Teaching Assistant
Support pupils during lessons, help them complete activities and encourage their confidence and independence.

‍ Cover Supervisor
Supervise secondary school classes and deliver work that has been prepared by the absent teacher.

❤️ ALN Support Assistant
Provide one-to-one or small-group support for pupils with Additional Learning Needs.

Learning or Behaviour Mentor
Build positive relationships with pupils who need additional encouragement to engage with school and learning.

SEN/ALN School Support
Support pupils with a range of learning, communication, sensory, physical or behavioural needs in specialist settings.

Who are we looking for?

You do not need previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant. However, you must have some experience supporting, coaching, caring for or working with children or young people.

You should also have:

Strong communication and relationship-building skills
A positive and encouraging approach
Good reliability and timekeeping
Confidence working with groups of pupils
The ability to remain calm and adaptable
A genuine interest in supporting young people
Welsh-language skills are desirable but not essential.

Registration requirements

To be considered for school-based work, you must:

Be aged 18 or over
Have the right to work in the UK
Provide an up-to-date CV covering your employment and education history
Be willing to complete an Enhanced DBS check
Register with the Education Workforce Council
Provide suitable professional references
Complete the required safeguarding and compliance checks
Teaching Personnel will guide you through the registration, DBS and Education Workforce Council processes.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
