Assistant Accountant

Reed Accountancy seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join a small and friendly finance team of three. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this is a varied and hands-on role offering exposure to a wide range of accounting responsibilities across multiple business interests.

Our client is looking for someone with a strong foundation in general accounting and technical skills, ideally AAT Level 4 qualified or above. Additionally, team fit, and a positive, can-do attitude is equally important to be successful in this role!

Key Responsibilities:

You will support the finance function across a diverse portfolio, including rural, investment, and creative sectors. Duties include:

• Sales and purchase ledger processing
• Bank reconciliations
• VAT returns
• Maintaining stock records (including livestock)
• Managing the asset register (additions, disposals, depreciation, reconciliations)
• Payroll processing for seasonal staff (training provided if needed)
• Monthly reporting pack preparation
• Balance sheet reconciliations
• Departmental cost analysis
• Weekly cash flow preparation
• Budget assistance
• Year-end accounts support
• Journal posting and nominal ledger work

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Solid understanding of MS Excel
• VAT knowledge
• Proficiency with Sage 50
• Management accounts preparation
• High attention to detail
• Organised and proactive, with the ability to prioritise effectively
